Excellent stay, from beginning to end
An excellent stay at the Mercure Lyon Centre Saxe Lafayette.
We particularly appreciated the Privilege room, very spacious, comfortable and perfectly soundproofed. The large bed was very pleasant, the lounge area appreciable after a day of sightseeing, and the minibar is a real plus. The cleanliness was impeccable.
The breakfast is exceptional, with a wide choice of quality products. The hotel restaurant also deserves to be discovered: the dishes are excellent and the service is attentive.
A big thank you to the whole team, who were particularly welcoming and accommodating. We had to organize an unexpected videoconference and were able to use a private coworking room, which helped us out tremendously.

Staff at breakfast were quite rude and on our first morning it was really poorly stocked. With an hour of service to go food was not stocked up: no melon, no plates, no croissants and if you asked staff they seemed to take offence!
The bathroom was very small and to get into the shower you have to brush past the toilet.
Nice fresh cold water coolers on every floor and a large fridge in the room.
The pool is toddler sized, dont book this hotel on the basis of a swimming pool as we did as you will be disappinted by it.
Great location to reach all of Lyon. Short walk from station and into centre.

Nice hotel og very friendly staff. The breakfast was very good and the fitness area was a nice facility. We were looking forward to enjoy the pool, but it was quite cold and smaller and than we expected from the photos.
The parking was quite expensive, 28 euros per day. We had the electric car slow-charged here, which was nice.

We were unaware of the swimming pool when booking and were not told about it on arrival so didn’t make use of it. We had a problem with the lift because we hadn’t been told about placing our room card in a slot to request a lift.
I found some glass on the carpet and the bathroom doorway. I also had a piece stick in my foot which drew blood. We told reception the next morning and asked for the room to be properly cleaned while we were out. This was done but I heard nothing from the hotel management in the way of an apology for the discomfort.
The layout of breakfast meant that people and children were wandering around looking for things to eat and going backwards and forwards in circles filling their plates. Food was not being replenished quickly enough and on the second morning it was even worse with the staff not seeming to care at all. This may have been due to a late night watching the World Cup.
We did have a very nice meal in the restaurant one evening. The waiter was very friendly and attentive.
The hop on hop off bus was very disappointing and a waste of money, as you now have to download an app to listen to the commentary. If you don’t have earphones or buds which we don’t, trying to listen to it on the phone is impossible.

My wife was unwell and unable to go to Breakfast. I asked for en passe emporter (which I believe is a takeaway cup) they said yes and then walked away ?
I also asked for late checkout and was told £20 per hour, quite inflexible I feel !!!! We now go to stay in chambery Mercure I hope the service is more like I expect from Mercure or we may not stay in one again!
