Jërëjëf! - (Thank you!)
That said, the air conditioning did not work and the walls were thin as I could hear the old man sleeping across from my room snore the entire night. Because I did'nt have time to do some sight seeing, living in a central part of the city allowed me to experience Dakar city life including some interaction with Senegal's talibé boys.

No water
This hotel is considered closer to the airport but it took me forever to get to it in the hot and humid Dakar weather.

Looks Can Be Deceiving
There on business, both my colleague and I checked in without any problems and once we had acclimatised and got the air-conditioning sorted in the room and cooled down, we supplemented that with a beer in the bar, which is a really nice looking bar with high stools and good local beer. After a couple, we decided to try the food at the hotel and it was absolutely lovely. I would definitely recommend the steak, but we ate quite a few dishes from the menu over the month we were there and it was all good. Breakfast however is an entirely different kettle of fish and you are pretty much limited to boiled eggs and bread. Fortunately we brought some Marmite with us, so that helped, but you would probably be better off getting some breakfast away from the hotel.
We asked at reception to change some money and this proved to be not so straight-forward as they don’t have any facilities at the hotel to do this, so I would imagine the services of a money-changer would be required. We eventually managed to change our currency after an hour, so in between we thought we would do our ironing for the morning. But they don’t have any ironing equipment, but housekeeping would do this for you for a fee. But not until the morning. Creased shirts it was then.
My room was on the ground floor and right outside the window was the emergency generator. I didn’t mind as I wasn’t really bothered about a view of any description, however one Sunday morning when the power cut and the generator kicked in, I really did mind! This only happened once during the month I was there, so not really an issue and I would rather have power than none. One of my colleagues who joined us a week after we arrived had problems with the air-conditioning in his room not working, but it was rectified quickly. The Wi-Fi connection is good, but sometimes intermittent, but this was to be expected, so again, not a huge issue unless you are someone who feels they need to be constantly connected.
The area around the hotel is nice and the security is very good. Directly opposite the entrance to the hotel (which is just off the main road) there is a fruit stall that does a wide selection of fresh fruits and they will juice it for you as well. If you venture further up the main road towards the junction, then you will find a few restaurants, cafés, takeaways and right at the top of the road there is a well-stocked mini-market. Within that small complex you can also get fried chicken, pizza and the Royal Senegalese burger, which is one of the best burgers I have tasted in a long time. And on a Wednesday the offer was 2-4-1. Double result! There is also a substantial eating area outside the front of the complex where you can eat your food. And you can also buy alcohol from the mini-market and then drink that outside too. On a Friday and Saturday night, this was a very pleasant thing to do as it’s a meeting point for lots of people, so quite busy and vibrant. The security once more is very good and you are prevented from being hassled by beggars and people trying to sell phone-cards every five minutes.
So overall, a surprisingly good stay with great staff who sometimes doubled up on their duties. There was one chap who was running the restaurant when we arrived, but seemed to be responsible for pretty much everything else in the hotel. You would find him in the kitchen, in the bar, at reception and also with housekeeping too. He definitely deserves a medal for the work he does!
