Historic hotel.

A visit to our hotel was part of our tour programme. We didn't end up in it for the purpose of living, but to learn about its amazing history. The hotel was built as the first major modern hotel in Lima and opened on 6 December 1924 to mark the centenary of the decisive Battle of Ayacucho for Peruvian Independence. The interior of the hotel is very impressive, the stained glass dome in the lobby is of particular value. They named the hotel after Simón Bolívar, who is one of the main liberators of South America. There is a hotel next to Piazza San Martín, where Peru proclaimed its independence. Over the years, the Grand Hotel Bolívar has hosted many celebrities and influential personalities, including heads of state, Hollywood stars, writers, and musicians. The hotel has a collection of various antique items, including a rarity Ford car. I advise everyone to visit the hotel, as it is closely connected to the history of Lima, and its architecture and celebrity accommodation make it significant to visit.

This hotel is conveniently located within the historical district of Lima, and easily served by taxi and Uber. Front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. Room is clean although the hotel itself is aged. The included breakfast is of high quality and is individually cooked. A major inconvenience is the weak WiFi signal in the hotel room. Not only the signal is weak but the internet connection is disrupted frequently. When using my own eSIM card for internet connection, the network shows only 3G , effectively with no connection.

Great as a history museum; lousy as a modern hotel

The museum is so famous, so beautiful its lobby and has hosted some many famous guests (Ernest Hemmingway, Clark Gable, etc.) – and also has such an amazing location right on Plaza San Martin – that walking tours of Lima actually stop in the lobby, where a vintage car in on display and there is a very lovely stained-glass dome.
However, I just stayed there stayed there four nights and the hot water never once worked in the shower. Even worse, I mentioned this the front desk three different times, and each time they gaslit me and insisted the room did indeed have hot water. The Internet almost never worked for more that few minutes as time, which should be disqualifying in a modern big city like Lima. The supposed air conditioning system seemed mostly ornamental – lucky it wasn’t too hot outside when I visited so the extra fan in the room was sufficient. Now I know why the price was relatively affordable compared to some other Lima hotels
They need to either just formally turn the hotel into a museum or dramatically modernize their infrastructure.

Beautiful historic hotel

My wife and I stopped by the Gran Hotel Bolivar during our city tour of Lima. It was built in 1924 to commemorate the centennial independence celebration in Peru. It is a beautiful historic building, but I would rather stay in a more modern and technologically available hotel.

Iconic hotel with great location in the historical centre. Public areas with luxury vibes, but rooms are very basic.
Friendly staff at reception.
Breakfast service was slow and sbould be improved. For example coffee wss served cold. My major complaint was wifi which was on/off both in public areas but mainly in the rooms. Great bar with pisco sauer drinks. Thanks!

Bardzo dobra lokalizacja
