Cozy, clean and homely- loved it !
Absolutely loved my stay at flock hostels! The vibe is perfect- chill common areas, friendly staff and really clean rooms. The beds are comfy and I appreciated the privacy curtains. Great Wi-Fi, central location, and the rooftop view is a nice bonus. Met amazing people here- would 100% return.

Am sure it’s a great place to stay. But here’s a message to the owner.
We are a family of four who booked Flock Hostel from 22–25 November. The hostel is vibrant, and the staff at the front desk were warm. But all of that was completely overshadowed by one thing:
the owner’s behaviour — which was the opposite of hospitality.
At check-in, the receptionist informed me there would be a 3.5% extra charge for using a Visa card.
I explained politely that during the same trip — including on the exact same day — none of the hotels I stayed at in Nepal charged me extra. I even showed proof. Attached are bills from a few hotels and the exact charges on the card.
The staff then said, “It’s already mentioned in the Booking.com confirmation.”
Yes — Booking.com does mention that card charges may apply.
But here’s the question:
Is it 1.5%? 2%? 3%? 5%? 7%?
Or just whatever number the hotel feels like charging that day?
There is no clarity, and the guest should not be held hostage to arbitrary percentages decided at the counter.
When I said I would mention this in my feedback, the owner barged in aggressively, as if I had committed a crime.
He immediately accused me of “blackmailing” him — instead of having a civil conversation.
Then came the theatrics:
“I will lock the gate,”
“I will call the police,”
— all because I questioned the credit card charges.
It honestly felt like he had watched too many movies and thought this was the moment to perform.
If the owner’s logic is that guests should pay his charges, then why not charge customers who book through online platforms an extra 18%–25%, since Booking.com and other OTA charges him that?
That’s how flawed his reasoning is.
After a full day of hiking with children, this behaviour was unacceptable. Our entire experience in Nepal until that point was so memorable.
Had the owner simply spoken calmly, I would have paid and moved on.
But when the person running the place behaves with zero maturity, you don’t feel safe or welcome — especially with kids.
We left, booked another hotel for $20 more per night, and received the hospitality, respect, and professionalism that should be standard anywhere.
- Questions are not threats
- Feedback is not blackmail.
- And card charges should not be a number you decide on the spot.
A must stay place for travellers but here’s a message to the owner.
This review is not to stop travellers from staying here.
It is to tell the owner one thing clearly:
Grow up, calm down, and let your team do the good work you keep undoing with your attitude

It is just a little too far off Thamel for me, up a cracked road, you can trip up at night. But if you are looking for somewhere quiet, it is a good place. NB. I booked a private room but they do not clean it daily unless you insist. Also it was in the fourth floor, no lift. I'm getting a bit old for this. The atrium/café design is really very imaginative and the café generally good.

Recommended for travelers on a tight budget
Convenient place price is not that bad, if you just want a place to sleep and do tours the next day, would recommend this place. We were traveling to Chitwan and Pokhara so we had to leave our bags here, but this was the place we stayed throughout for Kathmandu, the girl with glasses, fair skinned was really nice she told the other girl with glasses why we are being charged for 30 rupees daily just to leave our huge luggages so for our next few days, we were not charged anymore. Still I’d recommend this place. They can arrange drop off to the airport too. Staff are generally friendly and nice. Conditions of the room are average but not so bad.
