A young hostel by the park boasting style & old world charm...
This is a charming place to stay, a beautiful period building (increasingly rare in Toronto as of 2026) which has a lovely style internally as well. Very cool views of the CN tower / Downtown from the front windows. Comfortable temperature when I stayed during the winter. Homely feel all round.
Great location near public transit and generally backing onto Clarence Square, which is a nice little park that was reclaimed from being a tent city by the council in 2024 (in case you read negative things about it online, these no longer apply!).
It is not the cheapest but also it is more recently established than others so I am more forgiving of it's flaws for now, which included the slightly unhelpful staff at times (they volunteer for a free stay) and no one thinks to just bleach the black grout in the bathroom tiles for some reason..!
All in all I would stay again if the price was competitive.

Hostile and unsafe night staff
The place is not safe and some of the staff is extremely violent and unprofessional. I had an horrendous incident when I stayed there with the older man working the overnight shift. The situation was completely over the top and unacceptable. It all started because I mistakenly rang the bell once while rushing in from the rain around midnight on a Saturday night, even though I already had my door code in hand. The employee opened the door in the nastiest possible way, immediately yelling in my face.
I politely asked why he was being so rude, and instead of calming down, he became even more hostile. He raised his voice further and told me he would “kick my ass out of the building” if he wanted to. At that point, I was simply asking to be treated with basic respect while this individual caused a huge scene and acted as if he was ready to physically attack me.
This was honestly the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hostel, and I will never come back. This employee is a liability and could get the company sued. I actually had to walk away from the hostel in the middle of a rainy night just so he could calm down before I felt safe enough to return and get some sleep.
I also sent several emails to management about the incident and never received any response, which is extremely disappointing. I highly doubt this was the first time something like this has happened. The entire incident was caught on camera, and management should take it seriously.
This man made the place feel unsafe. I would not recommend staying here if you value your safety and peace of mind.

Very average, but well located.
Good location near a lovely park, but that's all I found positive. I had a queen room on the ground floor, very close to the main gate so I could hear all the comings and goings from the other residents. The bathroom suffered several apparent water damage to the ceiling and during my stay water flowed through the recessed light of the bathroom, coming from the shower of the room above. Good repairs should be considered plumbing level. In addition, I came during very cold January, but despite the heating I was cold in the room.

Terrible hostel
Terrible experience with the hostel worst one I’ve been to so far.
Very dirty rooms & floors are unsafe, need replacing and ripped up/falling apart.
Bedsheets don’t get change no matter how long you stay nor offer fresh towels.
Staff are very rude & have kids working there between 18-20.
Staff are very rude & management were making people uncomfortable mocking them.
So noisy at night, no one checking or addressing the noise from other people.
Hostel gone down hill.
Not much to choose from breakfast, the food made me sick & needing the toilet multiple occasions.

Comfortable beds and nice staff, the place is located at a nice place that makes it walkable to the main Toronto activities! Only downside is that it can be a little noisy at night, since is really near the Downtown. ( bring earplugs ) :)
