Highly recommend!

I have stayed at most of the Shanghai hostels over the years, and this is my new favorite hostel/small hotel in the downtown area. Only a couple of blocks north of Metro 2 Nanjing East station, exit 5. Just before Suzhou creek bridge. Only a few minutes walking distance to Nanjing pedestrian street, the Bund, etc. We stayed in a double bed room that was warm enough without turning on the room's heater even though it was pretty cold out.

Great location but that's about it

Great location near the metro station and East Nanjing Road walkway, but that's about it. I booked the apartment room for my family and immediately left the hotel after seeing how bad the conditions are. The lobby looked a bit run down and not perfect like the pictures described. That's fine, but the moment we walked into our room, we immediately smelled a strong smell of mold. The room was dim and wasn't bright enough. Upon room inspection, the carpeting was filthy and the walls are covered with mold, hence confirming our suspicion of the smell. We left immediately without a refund, and due to the language barrier, we couldn't really explain it to the front desk, and instead complained to our online travel agency.

Book East Nanjing Road not this one

I made the mistake of booking this Fish Inn thinking that it was the one I had stayed in before - the East Nanjing Road Fish Inn.
The price is good and the location is good, but it does not have the cosy downstairs vibe of its sister Fish Inn - is very grotty and while cheap you really feel that it’s a bit of a dive. I would either stay at East Nanjing Road or give it a miss… I’m sorry to say

Good location, friendly staff. Not much else

I stayed at this hotel in April 2023 for 3 nights. It was while I was in Shanghai for the weekend between business meetings and I was looking for a clean, basic room in a convenient location so that I could easily go sightseeing during the day.
The location of the hotel is very convenient being less than 200m from Exit 6 of East Nanjing metro station (do keep in mind that the hotel entrance is up a kind of sketchy alleyway off Ningbo Road if you cannot find it easily). There is a FamilyMart 50m from the hotel entrance too. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and eager to help even if there English was limited.
Unfortunately that's where it ended for me. My room was dirty - it looked like the carpets hadn't been vacuumed in years and the wallpaper was peeling off and was stuck onto the wall with tape. Throughout my stay the drain in the bathroom had a terrible stinky smell that could only be masked by leaving the room window open and bathroom extractor fan on. The housekeeping was also not great as they only replaced towels and toilet paper - they did not even make the bed during my stay. The only redeeming quality here was that the bedsheets seemed clean. In addition, my room was located next to the elevator, so it was quite noisy with the sounds of the elevator going up and down.
To be honest, even though I didn't have very high expectations, I was disappointed with the hotel. From what I've seen it seems like if you shop around you can find better hotels for not much more nearby.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this hotel and I will not be returning.

Nice hotel for a one night layover.

Convenient location, nice and clean hotel for a short one night layover. We got there from the airport using subway, it was very easy and quick. Went for a walk on the bund, short walk to the restaurants.
