Bad/no service
We booked and paid approximately €1,000 through Hotels.com for a room with two separate beds and air conditioning. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we received neither.
The room was unbearably hot during a summer heatwave, making it almost impossible to sleep or relax. The only way we could reduce the heat was by using a fan kindly provided by a member of the hotel staff and by leaving the balcony door open. Unfortunately, keeping the balcony door open at night was not an option because of the constant traffic noise from outside. We spent the night in a room that was simply too hot to sleep comfortably.
When we reported the problem, we were initially told that a technician would come to inspect the air conditioning. No technician ever came while we were there. Later, we were informed that there was a gas leak in the air conditioning system and that it could not be repaired during our stay.
After one night, we decided that we could not continue our stay under these conditions and moved to another hotel at our own inconvenience and additional expense.
We contacted Hotels.com for assistance. They contacted Hotel Louise on our behalf, but we were informed that the hotel stated the room was fully functional and that there were no issues with it. As a result, the hotel refused to refund the unused nights or accept any responsibility for the situation.
Instead, the hotel offered us €140, breakfast and complimentary drinks—but only if we signed a six-page settlement agreement.
That agreement required us to accept the payment as a full and final settlement, prohibited us from publishing reviews, comments or any public statements about our experience, and included confidentiality clauses allowing the hotel to seek €1,000 or more in damages if those terms were breached.
We refused to sign.
In the end, Hotels.com refunded 50% of the cost of our stay, even though the hotel itself refused to provide any refund. We sincerely appreciate Hotels.com for making an effort to resolve the situation fairly.
This review is not simply about the lack of air conditioning. Problems can happen at any hotel. What disappointed us most was the way the situation was handled. We did not receive the room we had booked, our concerns were dismissed, and the only compensation offered required us to give up our right to speak publicly about our experience.
We have travelled extensively over the years and have stayed in many hotels. We have never experienced anything like this before.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Hotel Louise.

For one night but no more
Competent and friendly staff
Basic breakfast served in an overheated room.
Industrial orange juice of poor quality, no butter or margarine, no fruit salad.
To top it all off: two homosexuals sat at the table next to ours and did not stop recounting their sexual exploits from the night before without even asking our permission to sit next to a normal couple.
