Terrible service from a rude supervisor ruined our Cairns trip
We stayed at Mercure Cairns in mid-July 2026. The hotel’s location and basic facilities are acceptable, yet one male supervisor’s extremely unprofessional and aggressive behavior completely spoiled our holiday experience. As a loyal guest of Accor brand hotels over the years, I am extremely disappointed with the poor management service at Mercure Cairns.
The hotel’s official check-out time is 10 AM. Since our flight took off late in the afternoon on July 15, we requested a late check-out at the front desk on the evening of July 14. The front desk staff consulted the management and approved us to check out before 12 PM, and provided a handwritten note as official proof.
We returned to our room around 11 AM the next day to pack up. A male supervisor entered our room and rudely ordered us to leave right away. We showed him the written late check-out approval ，However, this staff member did not accept it and was extremely rude in attitudeand .
After we hurriedly finished packing and headed to the front desk to return our room card, this supervisor rushed over, tried to snatch and tear up our approval note. He spoke to us in an impolite, accusatory tone and forced us to leave the hotel lobby immediately. Even when we told him we still needed to hand in our room card to complete check-out, he refused to take it and kept driving us out.
Even if the late check-out record was not logged in the internal system, he should have calmly verified our written evidence instead of confronting guests harshly. I travel to many countries and stay at numerous international chain hotels, and I have never encountered such poor customer service. For comparison, I successfully got a 2-hour late check-out without any trouble at Four Points by Sheraton Sydney recently. This supervisor lacks basic customer service training and basic conflict resolution skills. I sincerely hope the hotel management will thoroughly investigate this incident, retrain all staff on polite guest communication, and standardize the late check-out process to prevent other visitors from suffering the same unpleasant experience.

Below average for the Mercure name.
Check in staff was not very friendly at all and very judgy as I was weary from travel and caring for disabled partner I looked a mess.. My room was not ready My stay Did not include a breakfast and not worth $300 per night very small rooms. And parking only on the street. After waiting until after 430pm to get in. Staff turned over by this tome and they were good. Got to the new room and it looked very clean however there was black hair on the clean towels under the sink and black hair on one of the pillows. Have pics for proof....I will not be back...

Mediocre hotel
We are accor members and stay all over Australia in all accor hotels.
Mecure cairns was neat and tidy but...
It seems very worn rotting down pipes patches on roofs on second floor
Bed has power points on only one side
On ground floor the sliding door did not lock and had a chain attached to lock it that way
Just seems very worn with not much love given to the building.
Breakfast was ordinary, paper cups , 10 minute wait for bacon and eggs although it was a buffet.
Over all a 3 out of 5 seems to really be under cooked for an all accor hotel

give it a miss
this hotel is probably more 3 star than four...they are very greedy for money here...you can check in at 1059 am not 11 am and they will charge you full room rate...terrible...the shower is elevated to get in and very slippery on shower base...very bad design...the breakfast is atrocious...cold scrambled eggs and baked beans and sausages...better off offerring a la carte..spoke to other guests there and they agreed with me...will never come back...

Do not recommend staying here
The hotel is run down and it’s visibly mouldy on the exterior. The rooms look like they have had a spruce up, however looks like a rushed job and not well executed.
Reception area was used like staff room, entered hotel and first thing you see is lobby area full of housekeeping staff sitting around.
No parking, looks like what was the carpark for the hotel has been turned into a hire car business.
The restaurant is only open for breakfast which poses an issue for dinner as the area is not safe to walk alone at night. The location is also very loud, lots of traffic noise 24/7 including many sirens.
The walls are quite thin so can hear other guests, I recommend avoiding staying here at the best of times, but definitely avoid during school holidays unless you love hearing other peoples badly behaved children.
Regularly visit Cairns, I only stayed here due to my usual Accor hotels being booked out and I definitely will not be staying again.
