Hidden Gem

Callow Hall was just the tonic I needed.
It’s a hidden gem , beautiful boutique hotel.
Now hire was a lovely extra and we had the intention to ride but we just enjoyed the hotel instead. Maybe next time.
The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
I would recommend for couples or families , there are tree houses that you can stay in that my kids would love ,but I think my husband and I will keep this for ourselves .
Looking forward to returning soon.

Hello Alison,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for choosing to spend time with us at Wildhive Callow Hall.
I am delighted to hear that your stay was just the tonic you needed and that you found Callow Hall to be a hidden gem. It's fantastic to know you enjoyed the food, our friendly and attentive team, and the opportunity to simply relax and make the most of the hotel and its surroundings.
I had to smile when I read that the bicycles remained parked because you were enjoying the hotel too much! They will be waiting for you on your next visit when you're ready to explore a little further.
It's also lovely to hear that our Treehouses caught your eye. While they are certainly a favourite with families, I completely understand why you might want to keep them as a special retreat for you and your husband instead!
Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation. I will be sure to share your feedback with the team, who will be delighted to know they helped make your stay so enjoyable.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Callow Hall again very soon.
Kind regards,
Dale

Let down by underhand charges.

Was prepared to offer this place a glowing review after staying in one of the tree houses for just one night.
However, upon checkout and reviewing the bill, I found a host of additional costs added on under the title, ‘Service Charge’.
When I enquired about this, I was told this was a percentage of the cost of every item brought to your table (early evening drinks, evening meal & breakfast) by a server.
Yes, even breakfast which is made to order not a buffet.
This added over £50 to our final bill. However, I was informed that this is totally discretionary and could be removed if I wished.
I had it removed, stating that as an overnight resident (already paying far more than I felt was justified) I do not feel their Service Charge was appropriate.
Note I was also informed none of their room rates include breakfast, I cannot understand this, is it another way of squeezing more money out of guests?
Our stay was enjoyable, staff were excellent & friendly.
Great location, very peaceful & quiet.
Food was of high standard, although the wait time was a little long, cooked fresh to order one hopes to be the reason.
Felt very comfortable in the tree house, even though others are close by it felt very private.
Although it could do with some air conditioning rather than the noisy fan provided.
Could also do with a proper pod type coffee machine as the powdered coffee provided for the cafetiere was quite weak.
Nice to have a proper fridge rather than the poor coolers some hotels offer.
TV channels were a bit hit and miss, with several frozen or blacking out.
Happy to stay here again, but only when some significant discounts are available, because nice though it is, is simply does not warrant the costs currently being charged.

What has happened?

After five nights at the Tawny with the kids, my wife and I had booked a night away just for the two of us at Wildhive.
Having stayed three or four times in the past and eaten here closer to ten times over the years, we were really looking forward to it.
We stayed in one of the treehouses for a change this time, and it was charming.
The problems started when we went to the restaurant in the evening. We got down there at 7 pm with dinner booked at 8. We were told just to grab a table outside, and someone would be over. After 15 minutes, no one had been over, so I went to the bar to collect some menus and order some drinks but was told a server would be over to take the order. After another 10 minutes, nothing. I again went to the bar to order some drinks but was told again to go back to the table; a server would be over. Sure enough, after another five minutes, they were, and we ordered.
The drinks finally came out, and unfortunately, one of the drinks was dropped over my wife. Not a problem; accidents happen, and we were given paper towels to mop it all up. Unbeknownst to us, the poor guy who dropped the drinks was on work experience. The manager then sent him over again to apologise for spilling the drinks, which I thought was a bit of a cop-out, and sending a 16-year-old over again was a bit out of order on their behalf and a bit embarrassing for him.
I would have expected the manager or someone a little senior to pop over and apologise.
Next, we sat down to dinner; surely nothing else could go wrong, as, like I said, we have never had a bad experience here before.
My wife’s monkfish comes out and it’s cold. I ask the waiter if they could take it away and we could get a new one fired up, but they just reheated the original one. I think when mains are £30 plus, you should not be reheating fish, and we were not even given the option for them to fire a new one or my wife to order something else that may be quicker?
We had a great sleep in the trees and then down to breakfast. We gave out breakfast orders, bearing in mind, like the previous evening, there are not a lot of covers in and probably more staff than customers. Twenty minutes in, we have still had no drinks, and our breakfast turns up before any drinks do. Call me old-fashioned, but I do like a drink before I eat, and again, we are paying premium prices.
Awful experience, and unfortunately, after many years, I doubt we will be returning.

A perfect retreat for true relaxation!

Gorgeous rooms and great facilities. We stayed in the main hotel building for one night then moved to one of the hives for the second. We really appreciated the little touches like the balloons and card to celebrate a birthday and the little biscuits and milk jars in the room. Your staff really made the difference to our experience. Two members really looked after us, a kind waitress who I unfortunately cannot remember her name and a helpful man I think who is called Buk..? He went above and beyond for us helping out with our hive. The glass room restaurant/bar and the cosy fire place room are both lovely to dine and drink at :)

Hello Elicia,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a wonderful review of your recent stay with us.
I am delighted to hear that Callow Hall provided the perfect retreat for relaxation and that you enjoyed experiencing both a room in the main house and one of our Hives. It's lovely to know that the birthday touches were appreciated – we always enjoy helping our guests celebrate special occasions, and it's wonderful to hear that the balloons, card and in-room treats helped make your stay even more memorable.
What really stood out from your review was your praise for our team. Hospitality is all about people, and I am thrilled that our staff helped make such a positive difference to your experience. I will do my best to identify and personally thank both the waitress you mentioned and Dup, who will be delighted to know that his efforts were recognised and appreciated.
I am also pleased that you enjoyed dining and relaxing in both the Garden Room and our cosy fire-side lounge. These spaces were designed for guests to slow down, unwind and enjoy everything that makes Callow Hall special, so it's wonderful to know they contributed to such an enjoyable stay.
Thank you once again for your kind words. We truly appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back for another relaxing escape very soon.
Kind regards,

If I don't feel welcomed I will not visit again

recently spent two nights at this hotel, having arrived with high expectations for a luxury experience, largely informed by the impressive accolades I had read. Regrettably, my stay fell significantly short of these expectations in several key areas.
To begin, the rooms feel dated and are clearly in need of a comprehensive refurbishment to align with the premium standard the hotel claims to uphold.
On a brighter note, the spa was undoubtedly the highlight of my visit; the massage I received was, without question, one of the finest I have experienced in recent memory.
Needless to say, the beauty of the surrounding countryside and nature is beyond reproach. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenic walks and made great use of the complimentary bicycles provided by the hotel to explore the area
However, the dining experience was profoundly disappointing. Having heard the restaurant was newly renovated, I was eager to experience it; yet, the cuisine was mediocre at best, and the service was lackluster. The demeanor of the waitstaff was bafflingly cold, often treating standard requests as if they were personal burdens rather than professional duties. It frequently felt as though our mere presence was an inconvenience to them, leading one to question whether the staff is unaccustomed to international guests or if there is an underlying bias. The staff, quite consistently, seemed to excel at conveying their disdain through their unwelcoming expressions.
If the management has genuine ambitions to attract and retain international clientele, they must urgently address this culture of hostility.

Dear Naser A,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your recent stay with us.
Whilst I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, made good use of our complimentary bicycles, and experienced what sounds like an exceptional treatment in the spa, I was naturally disappointed to learn that several aspects of your stay fell short of expectations.
I was particularly surprised to read your comments regarding the bedrooms. Whilst we appreciate that personal preferences vary, many of our guests specifically choose Callow Hall for the individual character and design of our rooms. Nevertheless, we value all feedback and will take your comments into consideration as we continue to invest in and enhance the guest experience.
I am especially sorry to read your comments regarding the restaurant service. Whilst I fully accept that your experience did not meet expectations, I was particularly disappointed to read your suggestion that our team may be unaccustomed to international guests or that there could be an underlying bias.
We are fortunate to welcome guests from across the UK and around the world throughout the year, and we greatly value the diversity and richness that international visitors bring to Callow Hall. Inclusivity and genuine hospitality are principles that sit at the heart of our culture, and we would never want any guest to feel unwelcome.
That said, it is clear that this was your perception of the experience, and for that I am sincerely sorry. Whilst I do not recognise the culture of hostility you describe, I take your feedback seriously and will review it with the restaurant team to ensure that every guest receives the warm, attentive service we strive to provide.
Thank you for your candid observations. Feedback such as yours helps us identify areas where we can improve and ensure we are delivering the experience our guests expect when visiting Callow Hall.
We are grateful that you chose to stay with us and hope that, despite your disappointment, you might consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide the warm and memorable experience for which we are known for.
Kind regards,
Dale
