Nature Paradise Riverside Hostel Retreat

This hostel sits in the lap of nature starting with the 5-8 minute walk from the road entrance along a lovely creek .. over 3 bridges and up a pretty good set of stairs. This is the start of the nature adventure. Don’t worry, the folks here will help (what I mean is carry) all your luggage. The property is quiet-except for the sound of the river and the birds and rain and thunder! The views from our room and from the dining hall are amazing - so lush. There is a real dedication at this hostel to remain green! There is high humidity in this area.. upside great for skin.. downside clothing is a little moist all the time-I recommend fan and AC and … balcony with River view. The prices are very reasonable … the view is worth it! Sitting on the covered deck during a thundering downpour… amazing! The food at this hostel was excellent. We ate all our breakfasts and dinners here. Breakfast is plentiful-very nice omelet/toast/loads of fresh fruit/fresh squeezed juice of the day/ coffee /tea. Dinner changes each evening -we enjoyed a bbq-excellent! And two different other dinners.. both plentiful..delicious and oh so reasonably priced. It’s a hostel so everyone gets the same meal.. no menu. Food is excellent! They have cold beer for purchase (again very reasonably priced) and one thing that was a first for me in Sri Lanka … this accommodation has filtered water in big jugs in the dining area.. you just refill your own jug instead of always buying more plastic water bottles - I loved it. So handy and so green! Our room.. the dining hall the common areas -immaculately clean. And now.. about what to do here… this hostel is connected to Ceylon Adventures.. which is excellent. When we first arrived Rachitha welcomed us, assisted with our luggage, made sure we were comfortable and then made sure there was enough bbq for us at our late arrival! He recommend we “do all the adventures Ceylon Adventures offered… so we did. He was right! One of the things about being Canadian is that I have a pretty tight grip on schedule and time… and the Sri Lankan way is more relaxed. What you need to know about this place … is that it all works. We rafted.. we abseiled.. we hiked..we walked and we canyoned… AND… it was all amazing. Do it all! plan for a 2,3,4 days and when you arrive talk with the staff about all the things you want to do (all!) and they will magically arrange your activities for optimum timing. As an example.. they told my daughter and I that abseiling would be a little more fun if it it were raining… but … not too hard… we magically ended up abseiling in “light rain” and driving back to the hostel in the back of a truck in a downpour -gotta say… super fun!! The folks who own and work at the hostel also guide or support the adventure tours. One stop shop.
The people who own and work at this hostel and Ceylon Adventures are local… and what they demonstrate … professional, proud of their country, kind, helpful, generous… on a final note… on our last day.. our party was scheduled to fly from Sri Lanka to India. There was a mixup. It was incredibly stressful. The owner and staff of Ceylon Nature Hostel were AMAZING; finding drivers, hot spotting, making calls, offering support and (good) advice. They are the only reason I didn’t crumple into a ball and cry.
