Excellent value for money in the city centre

The room was comfortable, impeccable and well equipped (fridge, kettle, air conditioning, safe, etc.). Although it faces the street, the insulation is excellent: we were not disturbed by the noise of cars. The mattress is comfortable and the bathroom is clean, modern and as new.
The staff was friendly, spoke good English.
The location is ideal, close to the main sights to visit and well connected by many bus lines. Since 2025, public transport has been free in Belgrade. To save on the airport-hotel transfer, I recommend taking a shuttle (400 dinars per person while the taxi costs 3,500 dinars) to the city center, then continuing by bus.
The breakfast was satisfying and varied for a relatively small establishment, with a wide choice of local specialities (cheese, cold cuts, pastries).
Pros: the reception is very responsive. We contacted them twice online and received an immediate response.
One negative point: being a Netflix subscriber, I regretted that the TV in the room was not compatible with this service.

Average hotel

This hotel is in an old renovated building . It is marketed as a 4 star hotel but I would rank it as 3 star, because the rooms are small ,the breakfast room is small and crowded ,there is no decent lobby or lounge chairs and taxis cannot stop outside the front door , guests have to drag their suitcase to an adjacent street .The staff are helpful, the breakfast is reasonable and hotel location is good in city centre . We would not stay again .

A good base to explore Belgrade

The Hotel Opera was a good base for our two-night short break to Belgrade. Most of what we wanted from a city centre hotel was experienced. Check in was smooth and efficient. We had emailed the hotel before arrival and received an efficient and prompt reply, so we were confident that this would be the case. We had to email as my anti-virus software did block the hotel website, so checking or contacting the hotel through the internet was an issue and we booked through a different reservation site consequently. The receptionists were helpful and friendly throughout our stay, answering enquiries about money exchanges, taxis and maps. The location of the Hotel Opera is excellent, close to the main shopping district, restaurants a short distance away, a money exchange office nearby and a twenty-minute stroll to the Fortress in one direction and St. Sava’s Church in the other. We had the same experience on check out as well. There is no drop off area in front of the hotel due to it being on a busy road, so you need to arrange pick-ups and collection either round the corner or across the street in a side road. Our room was on the ground floor, with a wardrobe, which could have done with more hangers, lots of space to leave baggage, a full-length mirror, lots of sockets, a safe, fridge/mini bar and a good-sized bathroom with shelves, two mirrors and shower. The towels were very thin, however and there was no sink plug. The room had a TV but without international channels. The Wi-Fi was good. Our room faced the street so there was lots of traffic noise. This did not bother us, but it would disturb a light sleeper. Our air conditioning did not seem to be adjustable, and the room was warm throughout our stay. Housekeeping was generally good; the room was clean, but it was eccentric. Our towels were changed each day, but the bed not made (we left it tidy when we went out so whether they thought it did not need redoing is possible) and glasses were not changed out when used. The hotel was very busy over the weekend we stayed, much quieter on a weekday. We had no issues with disturbances caused by guests. The hotel offers a spa, but we did not use it. The hotel seemed to have a cellar bar (there was a board outside advertising a quiz night) but it was closed when we stayed. Breakfast was a mixed affair. On our first morning breakfast was very busy, and the one lady serving struggled to get plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery replaced as well as food. When breakfast was quieter on our check out day things were much better. The food is OK but not great, the bread is bought in, there’s lots of choice, both hot and cold (eggs, bacon, cheese, meats, salad, fruit, yoghurt and cereal) but it’s bland bar a fresh pie made each day. The amount of choice means that everyone should be able to find something to their liking. The coffee is via a machine. There is a hot and cold-water dispenser. Overall, the Hotel Opera was fine as a base to explore the city and there were no issues with our stay, just small inconveniences already mentioned.

A good central hotel.

A great hotel, excellent situation and very attentive staff.
Advice for those who want to visit Belgrade and forget about the car.

Poor front desk service. Front desk staff is extremly unfriendly and rude.

Not Recommended for International Travelers
Our experience at this hotel was disappointing, especially as international travelers. The front desk receptionist was extremely rude and unaccommodating. Despite having a group reservation and choosing this hotel for its convenient downtown location, the check-in process was unnecessarily difficult and unpleasant.
The receptionist showed no effort to assist or welcome us, and her attitude was impatient and unfriendly. It left a very poor impression on all of us.
I would not recommend this hotel to other travelers, particularly those visiting from abroad who may already be dealing with the stress of navigating a new country.
