Not a good match
- a peaceful and quiet place
- rooms of good quality with a fantastic sea view
- great staff, very friendly and supportive
- a shuttle bus that gets and brings you to the station
But also lowlights:
- there is nothing to do in the surrounding, but really nothing. only one small shop on walking distance, a Lawson convenience store. If you don't want to go hiking, find something to please yourself. The coast shore is not nice, there are no villages around
- the hotel staff has no clue how to help you to do some things in the area. Basically 0 support
- we booked 3 days breakfast and dinner (as there is really no restaurant in the neighborhood). The first day they had no western breakfast (although they advertised this in their brochure). Only fish and rice, so we did not get any breakfast. The second day we had some pastries (they were ok), but the last day we goot pizza hot salami served as breakfast (...) deep-frozen (..). Dinner was ok but if you do not keep asking for something different you get 3 evenings the same food. We asked for change, what they tried but 3 days the same wagyu beef grilled....
- we were sitting in the lounge and were almost thrown out in the afternoon as there were guests arriving...the owner said that we should play our game in our room...
- we had two rooms. One was nicely renovated, the other not. Quit a difference.
- the onsen downstairs are nice but are ready for renovation as well.
When we left they charged us even for the breakfast the first day - although they were not able to serve us anything. When I refused to pay for this they took it off the bill. I would have apologized if I was staff in this hotel....
This place is maybe nice for Japanese tourists who stay here for one night, but are not prepared for Western tourists.
And last but not least..it is quit pricy.

A Place With Heart, Soul, and an Unforgettable View
The hotel is family-run, and it truly shows. The owner himself is deeply involved and brings remarkable energy and care into continuously developing the experience. He speaks excellent English, and the entire staff was incredibly warm, attentive, and welcoming, with everyone able to communicate at least a little in English.
The rooms are beautifully designed in a subtle and calming way, and having a private wooden onsen tub in the room overlooking the sea is simply unforgettable. The atmosphere is serene and deeply relaxing.
Both dinner and breakfast were served in our room, which made the experience even more special. The meals were outstanding—freshly caught and perfectly grilled fish, delicate sashimi, rich and flavourful soups, and a variety of carefully prepared starters. The experience felt like a true fine-dining kaiseki meal, complete with a beautifully presented paper menu (with some English explanations as well). Enjoying this while looking out over the sea—especially at sunrise—was something truly memorable.
The communal outdoor onsen has a clever digital system indicating whether it is occupied or available, which makes it incredibly easy to use and especially comfortable for those who value privacy.
We also opted for in-room massage and acupuncture, which was a wonderful addition—relaxing, professional, and perfectly in line with the overall atmosphere of comfort and care.
This property genuinely has heart and soul. If you are looking to experience authentic Japanese hospitality, combined with the quiet magic of soaking in hot water while the cold winter air surrounds you and the moon reflects over the sea, this is a place you will not forget.
What stands out most is not just that they have maintained their high standards over the years, but that they have actively improved and evolved, which is rare and deeply appreciated.
There is honestly very little to fault. Logistically, arriving by shinkansen from Tokyo or Osaka requires a transfer at Atami, but this hardly feels like a drawback. The Izu line offers stunning coastal views, making the journey itself part of the experience.
