It’s a hidden gem. It’s my third time in this hotel. It offered hot spring and spacious rooms. We stayed with half board and we were pleased to be served with all exquisite and authentic Japanese cuisine.

Great experience

Our stay at Centurion Hakone Bettei was unforgettable. The rooms were authentically styled and incredibly comfortable, creating a serene atmosphere. Dinner was exceptional, offering a true taste of the region with refined presentation. The lounge area was a highlight, with its playable piano, model sports cars, record player, and interactive items that invited guests to explore and engage. It felt like a thoughtful blend of tradition and playful creativity, making the entire visit feel both unique and personal.

Wonderful staff, but many issues for foreign travelers

There are basically no reviews of this place on Trip Advisor, but check Booking.com for better, and more accurate reviews.
I wish we had!
There’s a lot to like about this place, and the service staff tried their best to accommodate us. If you are a Japanese traveler this place is ideal! Well situated, nice Onsen baths, large rooms with comfortable beds, child friendly…many wonderful things.
That said, if you’re an American traveler become familiar with Google translate as NO ONE here speaks any English at all!
Also, you better really love Japanese food as there are virtually no western style meals available. How about mackerel for breakfast? No thanks, I’ll pass!
And dinner is much the same…plenty of sushi and pickled whatever, but if you have any food issues, you’re going to be disappointed.
Also, the private Onsen bath they offer on a balcony room is ridiculous! It’s so small, my 5 ft 2 wife could barely get in it.
It’s located in a beautiful spot up a VERY steep hill. They do offer a car service to help you get around, and they’re near the various art museums installations in Hakone, but it’s very remote.
Again, if you have a car and are a Japanese couple or family…great! But my wife and I are senior travelers who’ve been all over the world and found this place to be one of the most challenging places we’ve ever stayed.

The best ryokan ever

Everything was perfect!
The hotel has many interesting interior details. Rooms and onsen new and very clean (the hotel opened in 2019). Food tasty and diverse. The staff polite and attentive to all our needs.
We’ll certainly stay again.
