High quality sustainable hospitality with untouched nature. Perfection.
Words aren't enough to do this place justice. Sarinbuana Eco Lodge is a really special place and far exceeded my expectations. Not only is the commitment to sustainability impressive (both in terms of nature and community) but the quality of everything here from the rooms, to the food, to the massages to all the small details is extremely high. They have perfectly balanced untouched nature with high end hospitality that feels effortless - where you feel at home but at the same time completely taken care of. This land is very special and just spending time here will change something in you.
There is so much more here than could ever be explained in writing, but I want to share my experience for those who are still deciding so that you don't miss out!
I spent a lot of time reading reviews for this place as it was far out of my usual budget for a trip, but it was 100% worth the price and I am already planning my return. Yes it is more expensive but there are many reasons for that and knowing that your money is truly contributing to taking care of this land and supporting the community makes a huge difference. I can't understand how anybody can give this place less than 5 stars. It deserves more stars if it was possible.
Despite being totally immersed in the jungle there are very few mosquitos and much less bugs/creatures than I would've expected. The team must do an incredible job at cleaning the rooms as mine was very well maintained and immaculate.
I stayed in rumah manis and am absolutely in love with this room (I want to build my own house based on it!). So beautifully designed in a way that perfectly complimented and enhanced the natural surroundings. I asked for breakfast to my room so I could enjoy the space even more. All of the furnishings and linens, towels, cushions etc are high quality and you really feel the attention to detail that has gone into creating this space. It feels clean, fresh and bright - which is not always easy to achieve in a tropical environment.
The food is delicious, every dish I tried was so fresh and flavourful, also generous portions (despite some reviews saying otherwise - don't believe it!). Highly recommend the chocolate mousse, chocolate icecream, fern tip salad and the curries. The wait for food was not long despite them making most items from scratch, and even if it is a little long the resturant is such a peaceful and cozy spot to relax in.
The massages were incredible - try the 20 finger massage you really won't regret it.
All of the staff were so kind, authentic and friendly, they remember small details and you feel very well taken care of without being overly fussed or bothered. They're attentive and there if you need them, but you also feel very much that your space and solitude is respected. A difficult balance but the team here do it perfectly.
You don't even need to leave the property to immerse yourself in nature. I spent hours exploring all the different trails around the property and valley. They have spent time carefully crafting and maintaining these trails in a way that honours the nature but still makes them easy to follow and as accessible as possible (yes there are a lot of steps if you want to visit the river pools, and due to the moss and shade can be a little slippy or muddy at times but if you take it slowly then there's no problem).
I was recovering from a foot injury so wasn't able to go on any of the guided walks/hikes but they offer multiple options - and I can't wait to try these when I come back. The staff recommended to visit sing sing Angin Waterfall (20 min scooter drive away) which was one of the best waterfalls I've been to in Bali - a beautiful river area and impressive falls, untouched and unspoilt but still easy to access, just some stairs and then a short path.
There is a tremendous amount of care and dedication put into creating and maintaining the lodge and it's surroundings, and in providing all the services to the guests. Both in what you see - the room, the service in resturant - but also I can only imagine the amount of effort it takes to maintain the land, all of the paths and steps, the canal, the electrics, taking care of the wooden features, all of the plants, the offerings etc. And on top of that, the impact of this lodge ripples put much further to support multiple community and conservation projects. So yes, it is expensive but your money is going towards not only gifting yourself an incredible experience but also helping take care of the earth and community.
Book a few extra nights, you'll be thankful that you did! I stayed 3 nights and it was not enough.

Garden of Eden ......
What a great place in the middle of the jungle... actually it doesn't feel like a hotel at all but when you enter here your member of the family becomes a warm friendly group of people who pamper you... the food in the restaurant is so delicious and made with love that you can't explain... it also feels more like a shared living room than a restaurant... the staff is so friendly and involved that it feels like a soft blanket... everyone does their part in their way... the wonderful massage in an open space...... interesting excursions and tour of the (permaculture) garden... the view from your room so special... the feeling of freedom priceless... well working toilet and shower....indeed many stairs (also to the river) but that also makes every view special... a gem in Bali... so grateful to stay here!
(There was a nasty incident but that was also resolved nicely...)

Rainforest retreat
If I could give Sarinbuana Eco Lodge 10 stars out of 5, I would! This was my fourth time there, and each time I want to stay forever. The owners are one of the most committed to sustainable development and conservation I have encountered anywhere in south-east Asia. The efforts to which they have gone to reduce their environmental impact, restore the surrounding rainforest and support the local community are second to none. The bungalows are stunningly designed and decorated - your own little piece of paradise in the rainforest. Getting up at dawn to sit on my balcony with a cup of tea and watch the jungle come alive is one of my favourite activities, followed by yoga in the yoga bale and a pre-breakfast swim in the natural pool. Most of the food (including the coffee and cacao!) is sourced from the lodge's own permaculture garden and is lovingly cooked - the servings are enormous! Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The staff are like family and are all so friendly and lovely. The lodge also offers many activities, from hikes, to cooking, to limestone or wood carving to massages. For travellers looking for a peaceful, environmentally friendly getaway in a remote location in central Bali, I cannot recommend Sarinbuana Eco Lodge highly enough. Do yourself a favour and go!

Literally Life Changing
How do I explain how enchanting and special of a place this is? I had the privilege to stay for 3 weeks and was able ot take advantage of the birdwatching,Balinese painting class, Balinese dance class,and cooking workshop
The custom meals by the kitchen team made fresh each day for you, the hiking trails, the natural beauty, and the commitment by the owners to the local economy and environment are what put my stay over the edge. This is a once in a lifetime place with once in a lifetime people who went above and beyond to help me when I got sick.
Also, the food is some of the best you will ever have in your entire life. Have the chocolate ice cream and black rice pudding. it will literally change your life (I don’t even like ice cream).

Not as Remote as I Had Hoped
Sarinbuana Eco Lodge was in a pleasant location, though I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't more remote. The website makes it sound like it is the most remote place in Bali, but there were villages nearby and towns just 30 minutes away or so. It is quiet and tranquil, and does have wonderful views. And it's lovely that you can walk around its paths in the forest easily, and even swim in the little ponds under the waterfalls.
I was excited to come for the Solo Retreat experience advertised on the website, yet when I arrived, it transpired that I had only booked three nights' accommodation (bed & breakfast), with nothing extra (the package advertised included all meals and a massage treatment). This came as a surprise, as I had emailed Sarinbuana and asked how I was to book the Solo experience, and I was told to simply book three nights' accommodation. So, it was a bit disappointing, as I had had to pay more than expected or budgeted for, and the management did not appreciate my disillusion.
Breakfast was lovely, meals were ok, service great, and beds super comfortable. Nice ambience in the restaurant, very cosy. The natural pool is also very pleasant and clean to swim in, and you can get the little fish to nibble your feet if you are still : )
There was an interesting cafe / restaurant next door, which I wish I had discovered sooner : )
All in all, it was not remote or pure enough for me, but then again, maybe that goes for the whole of the island, and what I was looking for, does not exist, I don't know!

Although we are in a rural area there is still a small local farming community in the surroundings of our lodge.
