Great place just outside Ruteng.

The place was great, Urdis was really nice. The place was comfortable and the breakfast simple and nice on the terrace of your on own room. Great place for a night just outside Ruteng. Also happy to help you with transport.

Not the type of owners you would want to stay with

When things do not go as planned is when you often find out more - a smile at arrival is easily faked to be considered "nice owners".
There is a 14 day cancellation policy at this place. You know that when booking. But the way they treat you? That is not right!
My flight to Flores got cancelled 3 days in a row. So at first I tried to change my date - they had availability so you would think it does not make that much difference. It took a lot of reminders and me having to pay a second night before getting my first one refunded!! So when after the 3th flight cancellation I had to skip Flores altogheter I was pretty sure I was not going to be refunded.
A polite "sorry no can do" would have been perfectly acceptable. But THIS OWNER SIMPLY REFUSES TO ANSWER - not to my reminders, not to the requests from Booking.com themselves. So the room remained “booked” the full week until my actual reservation date. So no chance for other travellers to book and actually stay on that day: for me that says it all about how much they like people to actually stay at their place!
In comparison: ALL others properties (I had booked 7 nights + a driver) replied promptly. So luckily Hobbit Hill is the bad exception.

If you dont have a motorbike, dont stay here !

Its a long walk to the nearest food place, which is all the way into town if you stay here. And when we stayed in Hobbitt Hill, 3 nights, they didnt have food.....maybe sometimes they do but obviously you cant count on it. Very long walk. With motorbike okey. And also note that there is a fairly busy road right in front of your door...just a few bushes between....road going to the bus terminal so traffic all the time. So if you dont have a motorbike, then better stay in town.

Hidden gem near Ruteng

We spent only 2 days at Hobbit Hill and were sad to leave the quiet, beautiful and clean homestay.
Udis is a lovely hostess that makes you breakfast at your preferred time, cooks fantastic meals and is always there to answer your questions or help you out. She has a lovely garden which she was happy to tell about, and is just an amazingly sweet woman.
Although this is located about 50 min walk away from Ruteng’s centre, the views in the morning definitely make up for it. Overall a fantastic stay and we would definitely come back!

Amazing place!

Urdis and her team were fantastic hosts. They provided a really friendly service, gave detailed information and wonderful home cooked food for breakfast and dinner.
The guesthouse is clean and well maintained and has beautiful views. Not too far outside of town. Transport is easy to get. We loved it here and would definitely stay again! Highly recommended!
