A hidden sanctuary on Lombok — quietly transformative.

I stayed for 7 nights at Majango Bungalows and found it to be one of Lombok’s truly hidden gems. The property sits on a small hill surrounded by greenery, offering a peaceful retreat energy that is rare and deeply nourishing.
My bungalow was spacious, elevated, and open — with floor-to-ceiling windows, a hammock terrace, and a personal water dispenser. The open-air bathroom and natural materials created a grounding, rustic atmosphere that supported inner work and silence. The staff were warm, kind, and genuinely attentive. Breakfast was simple but fresh, including homemade bread and delicious bowls.
The island itself carries a very particular energy: volcanic, sensual, body-opening. Mornings often began with soft ritual prayers from the nearby village — something that added to the atmosphere and supported my personal retreat week.
A few areas could be refined:
– inconsistent housekeeping
– no reception signage (a bit confusing on arrival)
– construction onsite during my stay
– pool area could be cleaner (fallen soil, dog resting on cushions)
– no snacks available in the evening, and during power outages online orders were impossible
Still, the overall experience was beautiful, grounding, and memorable. This is a place for women (and travelers) seeking quiet retreat vibes, nature connection, and authentic simplicity.
If these small refinements are addressed, Majango has the potential to become a true boutique sanctuary on Lombok.

Quiet Jungle Hideaway

If you want to stay away from the noise of the main town this is the perfect place to stay. Going to sleep to the sound of cicadas beats the deafening roar of bikes and loud music any day! The bungalows are clean with excellent AC. The shower is amazing (something that can be hard to come by!). The pool feels like in the middle of the jungle. We watched monkeys playing meters away from our loungers. You are amongst nature here.
It is situated on a steep hill and you must either rent a bike (which they rent out) or a driver (far more pricey) to get to Kuta. It was great to go out on the bike for the day then return to tranquility here.
The breakfast is delicious. Omelettes, the fluffiest pancakes and fresh fruit and granola bowls. The staff are all very friendly and there to help all hours. It was a lovely stay and we would certainly return here if we return to Kuta.

We came here with an open mind but it was hard after everything kept going wrong!

When we arrived at Bangsal port, the manger of the accomodation forgot to organise our pickup and lied to us and tried to use two completely different excuses. We were then stranded for nearly 2 hours until the driver came, we ended up arriving at the accommodation at around 6pm when it should have been after lunch. Was stranded nearly another 2 hours the next day AGAIN as it was incredibly hard to communicate with the driver, he kept hanging up on us and wouldn’t answer until I contacted the manager.
When we first arrived, the power was out in both our rooms and they were really unorganised and unprepared. My friends room was extremely hot and they wouldn’t give her another fan or change rooms.
It’s also up a huge hill next to construction. You won’t be able to walk or explore anywhere. Really far from town too. And very limited food options and to be honest it wasn’t the best. Don’t stay here if you want to be close in town, especially if you don’t have a scooter because you will be overpaying for a driver.
Unfortunately ended up leaving after the first night as it was not the best experience, especially when they were laughing at us!
Definitely feel like you can get way more value for food and a better place to stay somewhere else. Really made our first trip to Lombok a horrible one.

Nice, clean bungalows in a peaceful setting

Stayed for a few nights in Majango Bungalows. Nice, peaceful place. Clean, well taken care of bungalows.
Thomas was also really helpful with organising a surfing lesson for beginners and transportation to continue the travel further. Thanks for a great stay!
You should drive a scooter if you’re staying here, restaurants and beaches are not in walking distance.

Amazing Junge Bungalows

Great Location, super calm and peaceful, hidden in the jungle just outside of kuta.
Good place to relax. Friendly staff, very clean rooms and great breakfast. You can rent scooters, book tours and surf lesson there also.
