Area still needs development, but the people are nice and good trips from here!
The hotel is good and the people running it are very nice. The problem of the area is a lack of good restaurants until today, even if the owner of Cavery beach is building one right now. The beach directly in front of the hotel is very safe for small children with some sand, but for serious swimming you'll need to pass some rocks and plants before it get's deep enough. The beach a few hundred meters back north (still the same bay) is better, but has lots of fishermen's activities (interesting to watch and photograph). So, what to do from here?
The hotel is offering good day trips to places like Pagang Island (see reviews about it). A great waterfall to climb for is just 2 km away, ask someone with a motorbike to get you to the start of the trail. The highest part is the best for a refreshing swim and there are fantastic views of the bay from some spots on the way.
Finally, there are nice beaches further south. If you want to book a day with a car and driver, ask at Cavery beach for Dodi to drive you! I never had a better driver in Indonesia (and I had lots of them). Very careful, never pushy and even watching out for pedestrians or preparing for other peoples mistakes (rare in Indonesia).
You can imagine how nice he is with his own clients!
So, use Cavery beach as a starting point, but don't expect to spend your whole holiday on the same spot.

Only if you are desperate!
There is no food or beverages at the resort either. If you need something, the staff will go and find it for you. On the positive, they are building a cafe/restaurant that is expected to be finished mid-2016.
The staff are super-friendly but english is limited. One of them loaned me his scooter to get dinner one night which was great.
Walked up to Rastafarian reggae bar playing Bob Marley (100 m from hotel)... cafe had no booze and canned the music (easy mood killer) even though the owner said they had beer! Odd?!? There are bottles of whisky and beer all around the cafe, even signs that say "have a beer to stay cool". So we didn't stay...
Walked up to Los Carmens.... also a waste of space. It's literally a hut with nothing!
Short answer is the Cavery is the best of the bad bunch in a town where there isn't much to do... actually, there's nothing to do.
Make it a short pit stop if you are heading somewhere nicer like Rimba or Tintin

Best place to stay in Bungus Beach
- The room:
They have a choice of bungalows (275 000 - 400 000 IDR, bargaining). We had one of the 5 bungalows directly on the beach. Our room had a perfect seaview, and at high tide there was like 2 m from our doorsteps to the ocean! If the weather is not cloudy you can see sunset from your veranda! The hotel territory seems to be private with no other people running around. It should be this way, and I only mention it because we had an unpleasant experience in a losmen nearby where there were crowds of noisy people and even cars under our windows. Well, it is not the case with Cavery! For the most of our stay we had the whole hotel to ourselves. And although like all places in Bungus Bay it is so close the highway, in our first row bungalow we could hear no noise from the road, only the waves, perfect!
The room is very spacious and has air conditioning and even a TV (did not turn on so no idea if it was working). The bed was large and comfortable with clean sheets (again remembering the losmens I note this). There were closets, drawers and hooks on the walls and 2 chairs and a table inside the room and the same set on the veranda. Everything looked clean but may need some renovation. The bathroom was a surprise, not only did it have a flush toilet but actually a (quite old) bathtub! (although I can not imagine anybody taking a bath there). There was no hot water at the moment of our stay but we did not care, anyway it was not icy cold. The hotel provided towels, soap, toilet paper and 2 small bottles of water. Very hotel-like!
- Food, Internet, island trips
There is no cafe in the hotel. But this is not so much of a problem, there are at least 3 options not far away - Bule Cafe, Yangi Café (our choice) and Carlos's. Raoul from Tintin also cooks breakfast and BBQ. Small shops nearby sell snacks and beer (25 000 IDR for large Bintang). If you need Internet there is a game café nearby, and Raoul from Tintin has wi-fi (although the signal was too weak). For island trips you can contact Carlos or Raoul or Yangi Café. We went with Raoul and had a great time. When we needed a taxi to go to the airport early in the morning, the hotel arranged for a car and charged 200 000 IDR (50 min trip in the morning, up to 1.5 h during the day).
The only real downside of this nice hotel is that this part of the beach is NOT good for swimming or bathing as the bottom is very rocky. We did go swimming everyday but wearing acqua shoes and being careful. It is a bit better at high tide. The only place with sandy bottom in Bungus seems to be Losmen Carlos, but we did not enjoy our stay there because of the constant noise and poor rooms (separate review). Anyway if you are coming to Bungus Beach probably you plan on island trips so you will have many good swims there.
Overall, this is a good hotel, and yes, it is more expensive than the losmens in the vicinity but it is so so much better and worth every Rupiah!!
