Catalan gem of hospitality!

My family and I decided to spend 10 days of our Catalan vacation at Can Solanas, after a couple of days in Barcelona.
We were attracted by the setting captured in website pictures and by the location.
It was the perfect choice!
We were hosted and spoiled by Silvia and Tomas in their 13th century mansion, which is fully renovated and very well maintained.
We had two rooms with a shared bathroom (ideal solution for a family) in an almost independent portion of the house. The rooms were nicely decorated, the beds comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and clean.
The house offers a library, a living room with a tv and a terrace, as well as a dining room where the breakfast is served.
Breakfast is typically Catalan, made of bread with tomato (pa amb tomaquet), cheese and sausages, yogurt, jams, cakes and all beverages.
Outside there is a huge and well maintained garden with a nice and clean swimming pool, where you can rest and relax.
The location is definitely good because is close to Banyoles, Besalú, Girona, Figueres and, if you want to go to the beach, you have to drive 30 min to 1 hour. We had the opportunity to visit some amazing beaches (Calella di Palafrugell, Tamariu, Cadaques, Sant Martì d’Empuries) thanks to Silvia’s tips.
We felt at home and we really enjoyed staying at Can Solanas.

Amazing atmospheric country house

Beautiful old farmhouse ideally situated just 35 minutes from Girona airport. Close to Besalu and Girona. We really felt at home . The hosts were welcoming, the rooms lovely and clean. Ideal as a base to visit a number of medieval villages in the area.

Wonderful Hostess, Gorgeous Farm Home, great cooking!

We spent two nights at Can Solanas, a beautiful property in a quaint village. Very close to many locations: Girona, Figueres, Besalu, Garoxa...
Sylvia, the owner was quick to respond and even offered to cook for us the first night. Her dinner was excellent and we had a chance to talk to her and hear about her family home.
When we travel we like to connect with the local people and staying at Can Solanas gave us the opportunity to do so. It is not a hotel, so don't expect hotel service. It is her home and she gracefully opened her doors so others can enjoy her beautiful place. It is run as a bed and breakfast.
Her home is very large and contains many beautiful antiques and art pieces. There are many common areas around the house where you can play games, talk, read, etc.
We were very glad we got to stay here.
The only problem for us in the US was being able to send her the advance deposit as she does not take credit cards. Maybe other travelers around this site can tell us how we can do that efficiently from the US.

Nice old mansion

The mansion is a really beautiful from inside and outside with all the different details. The inside almost looks like a museum. The area is quiet, you can use the swimming pool, and there are a lot of books to read or board games. The room itself is not really big, but is sufficient. The bed is relatively small, especially for tall people.
The breakfast is included, simple, but good. They also have pets, both really nice and quiet: a dog and a cat. Furthermore it is really close to Banyoles and to Besalú, both nice to see. Other interesting cities at half an hour of driving distance are: Girona, Figueres and Olot.

Great hotel in a beautiful setting

We stayed here as a family in the two rooms that share a bathroom. Both bedrooms were very comfortable and beautifully furnished. They were in their own section slightly apart from the other rooms. They were also cool both day and night despite the August sun and with out the need for nasty air conditioning. This is because the hotel is a very old stone building. You almost feel as though you are staying in a castle, but a homely welcoming one. The pool is great, and the breakfast plentiful and very tasty. I would recommend staying here. We really enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding area. The family who run the hotel were very pleasant and wonderful hosts. I would love to stay there again.
