One of the best
I have been travelling on and off for 25 years and i have to say this hotel is excellent, by far one of the best in Crete.
I had a superior double room, basically a 44m2 apartment and it was very nice, looked great, modern with everything you need even a washing machine. Touch panels to control lights and AC, very nice bathroom. Big ground balcony with banana palms and a view of the pool.
The snack bar by the pool offers a great variety of food & drinks, more than any other pool/snack bar i have seen. Very good food, the chef knows what he's doing. Happy hour from 18-20.00, with 20% on drinks and food. Breakfast was good, fresh and varied.
Its a 5-10 min buss/car ride to Rethymno city. 5 min walk to the beach. 50-100m to the left of the hotel is a nice big supermarket with everything you could possibly want.
The hotel has this great option of keeping your room for some extra hours on checkout day so you dont have to wander around for hours and hours. 10€ per hour.
Great staff, always smiling, always provides great service, everyone from the cleaning staff to the bartenders to management.
This was my eighth time to Crete and i have found my favorite hotel and will be booking here for all my future crete travels. 5/5

Beware of overbooking problem
Overall a nice hotel with friendly staff.
Our experience was tainted by the fact that we booked a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms so that our 18 year old daughter could be with us but have her own space. I booked through last minute.com in January but emailed the hotel afterwards to confirm the booking, which they did.
We arrived after midnight and were taken to a 1 bedroom apartment, with only the night staff on duty there was nothing he could do. We went to reception the next morning and were told that no 2 bedroom apartments were available. We could stay where we were or get an additional studio room for my daughter 4 days later. We had no option but to accept the other room when it was available but that was almost a week in to our holiday.
We weren’t the only ones affected by this as we heard other people at reception complaining that they hadn’t been given the room that we booked.
The air con in the rooms was good once we figured it out, but often switched itself off in the night in the bedroom, which wasn’t great. There wasn’t a great deal of storage space/hangers and no drawers which was strange.
The location was fairly quiet and not much around at night so we got taxis to the centre every night.
Breakfast was ok for a small hotel. but the juice was terrible!

Loved it
We are on our last night here. The room and facilities are spotless. The bar and its food is really nice with big portions ( easily shareable)
We never didn't get a very comfortable lounger. Nitsa is so nice as is Katerina and Babis in the bar.
The clientele are lovely at this hotel
Loads of families and couples enjoying fabulous Crete.
We just loved Biskotto the pastry shop down the road and the souvlaki shop up the road. Tavernas we ate at were taverna tzizzis and Manolis. We loved the cardboard cut out of the main man!!

The hospitality afforded us everywhere is something irish restaurants and hotels need to adopt. Oh shout out to Popeyes watersports on the beach so nice So safe.

Summer Dream, Eat, Sleep, Relax
Just returned from yet another amazing holiday on Crete, in particular at the Summer Dream Hotel at Rethymnon where we were staying for the third time in the last four years.
Nista the hotel Manager once again provided the excellent service that we had experienced on our previous 2 visits and even allocated us our favourite room which was spotless and had all of the facilities needed if you’re going on a self catering basis, in fact it was just like coming home.
As we were on a self catering basis we only ever prepared breakfast and a light lunch in our room, choosing like the majority of people, to eat out and experience the wonderful hospitality at the many lovely tavernas dotted along the sea front, I will come back to those shortly.
The hotel is really well run by the management who are always very pleasant and very helpful if you need their assistance.
Our room was kept scrupulously clean by our room attendant, who just like the management was always so pleasant every single time we saw her around the hotel.
During the day, we chose to relax around the pool, which at times can get quite noisy, but it’s to be expected when a hotel like Summer Dream is so popular especially as many are returning guests. The pool bar is a very big attraction with as it is so well run by both Babis and of course the ever present and ever so popular Katrina, she’s an absolute diamond, the bar just wouldn’t be the same without her.
Coming back to the local tavernas, unfortunately, since our last visit in 2024 I have been diagnosed with celiac and was extremely worried about eating out. If you’re a celiac reading my review, please don’t worry, we ate out at 5 different tavernas during our 14 night stay and as soon as I made the staff aware that I was celiac, they couldn’t do enough for me, advising me what was and what wasn’t ok for me to eat. Unlike here in the UK the choice of food was far above what I could have ever expected, in fact I would go as far to say that the Greek people go above and beyond what ever I could have expected as regards variety of food available to me compared with the limited options you get here in the UK.
Tavernas worth visiting in my opinion which are within very easy walking distance are 1. Vatania 2. Taverna Crete 3. Irini 4. Nostos and 5. Manolis in that order. We ate at Vatania 5 times and Taverna Crete 4 times, both in my estimation providing exceptional service….one tip, if you visit Vatania you just have to try the Sea Bass.
One very very small gripe for the Hotel….Please move the the notice board by the pool which is in a corner behind a palm tree advising those using the pool area of what they can and can’t do to somewhere more visible as guests do not take any notice of one particular item which says PLEASE DO NOT RESERVE SUNBEDS IN THE MORNING BY PLACING TOWELS ON THEM WHICH ARE THEN LEFT UNATTENDED or words to that effect.
I was so tempted to collect them up and leave them in the pool bar. If in the morning management see towels left unattended before breakfast they really should take heed of their own notice and collect towels up to leave the sunbeds available on a first come first serve basis, but besides that we had another wonderful holiday.
So the burning question …. Will we be returning to Summer Dream? The answer…..See you and your wonderful staff next year Nista.

Lovely little hotel
Excellent hotel in the lovely rethymno, perfect location, the staff at this hotel are incredible, special shout out to Katarina and Babis at the pool bar they made our stay extra special, they were so good with our baby, he loved them both, also the blonde lady at the reception was so nice but im afraid I dont remember her name.
Hotel is spotlessly clean, rooms cleaned everyday, our room was on the road I would recommend asking for a room not on the road if you are a light sleeper as traffic outside can be a bit noisy through the night.
My wife enjoyed the breakfast, I found it a little limited but im fussy, nothing to do with the quality of the food.
Location of the hotel is perfect, maybe 300 yards from the beach just a 20 minute walk along the promenade to the old town which we loved or a 7 euro taxi, next door to a big supermarket for all your needs, this end of the beach is the more beautiful with lots of lovely restaurants around, as you get closer to the old town the beach is busier and more public. Nice comfy sunbeds, no morning rush to get them.
Rethymno is now one of our favourite places in Greece, not too commercialised and a very pretty picturesque place.
Will definitely return one day
