Home Base That Feels Like Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay beside the Vienne River. Jeanne welcomed us warmly and we truly felt at home throughout our stay. Our room was spotless, spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. We loved the wooden shutters that were very effective at minimizing the very vocal frogs in the river each evening! Breakfast was plentiful and customized for each member of our party. The crepes were delicious and the addition of meats, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, and fruit got our days off to an excellent start. The home and grounds are immaculately kept and it was a pleasure to relax in the evening. The Wi-Fi service was steady and reliable. We didn't miss having a television as the tranquil surroundings were plenty entertaining. The private gated parking and very reasonably priced laundry service was much appreciated. Chinon is a quick 10 minute drive away and we found the Domaine du Heron to be the perfect home base to explore the Loire Valley. We would love to return and stay longer!

Like a home stay

Absolutely amazing experience staying at Domaine du Heron. Lovely rooms overlooking the river, amazing shower, super friendly couple owning and running the place. Place originally build by the mans grandfather and been in the family ever since. Great recommendations on restaurants in Chinon, which is only 5 mins drive away. And the breakfast

Exceptional

Beautiful country house overlooking the river. Lovely family made us feel completely at home. The room was spotlessly clean. Off road car parking in the courtyard area. Breakfast delicious homemade pastries, crepes, Jams, yoghurts. We didn’t want to leave!

Tranquility, class and friendliness

My husband and I spent 1 night at this wonderful place and both wished it would have been many more nights. The place was so tranquil especially after staying in Paris with the loud street noise. Here there is no street noise, only the sounds of birds and maybe frogs (not sure.) (The frogs were loud though and earplugs are recommended if sounds disturb your sleep).
The hostess Jeanne, is very friendly and makes you feel like family. Upon greeting you she walks you around to show you the beautiful river views. Her rooms are tastefully decorated and expansive especially compared to hotels in Paris. Our bed was made from memory foam and extremely comfortable.
Her breakfast is wonderful. We had it on the patio overlooking the river. She serves homemade yogurt and jams alongside croissants, breads, ham, salami and eggs. The Domaine du Heron is exceptional and we hope to return very soon. It is so peaceful, yet a very short drive ~8 min to beautiful Chinon. It is also only a 4 km (2.4 mile) walk along the river into Chinon which would have been nice to stretch our legs. If you are driving this is a wonderful place to stay.
BTW: the hotel is adjacent to a beautiful 11th century church visited by Jeanne d'Arc before her memorable meeting with the King!!!
(Someone mentioned the lack of coffee in the rooms but it appears Jeanne has responded to that concern and added coffee makers in the rooms.)

Très chic et exceptionnel

Domaine du Héron is exceptional. In a wonderful position, overlooking the lovely river Vienne, this beautiful mini-château with exquisitely formal gardens, and charming hostess, Madame Jeanne, provide a perfect retreat. La maison is furnished with amazing antiques and personal collections but enjoys a contemporary feel especially in the unusual breakfast room. The rooms are spacious with views over the river. You can watch the morning mist rise to reveal stunning blue skies, notice beavers swimming along the opposite bank, suddenly sight kingfishers skimming the water, and see herons fishing or slowly gliding downriver as the waters wend towards the Loire.
Continental breakfast is a delight including home-made jams. And a charming touch: sculptured towels on the bed when you retire, together with a Bon Mot from Voltaire about happiness.
And Madame Jeanne ensures her visitors are happy. The terrace overlooking the river is available for guests to enjoy their own wine or purchase a glass/bottle from their hostess. There could be nothing more soothing, watching the river flow by, knowing every comfort is provided.
An added bonus is the fascinating 11th-century church right next door to Domaine du Héron, well worth a visit. The architecture is unusual, Jeanne d'Arc prayed here, the font is 14th-century, and there is a wonderful wall painting of the Last Supper.
We thoroughly recommend Domaine du Héron as your Touraine base.
