Quality and simplicity.
After our discovery in 2024, confirmed in 2025, here is our third stay as a couple at the Castillan. It is difficult not to heap praise on this establishment, which is still just as well-managed and maintained.
The natural setting is simply exceptional: facing the Meije, you feel like you have one of the most beautiful paintings of the Alps right before your eyes.
The atmosphere, simple and professional, evokes that of an experienced and discreet mountain guide. The cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel remains impeccable.
After a good sunny hike, the hotel offers a beautiful pool with a view of the Meije, a sauna, books, board games, a pool table......
You will also find many practical services there, including secure and adapted bicycle or motorcycle-quad storage areas.
As for the food, it is a true wonder: from the homemade jam at breakfast to the lamb at dinner, everything highlights local and homemade products with great talent. As a Ukrainian!, I was particularly charmed by the magnificent dessert created in tribute to the ballerina Anna Pavlova.
On top of that, if you get a bit hungry around noon, a small chalet offers a variety of nice things to snack on quickly so you can get back to it full speed in the afternoon.
A small detail that is not so small: as a prevention professional, I would like to point out that the fire safety systems are perfectly up to date and clean for this public building.
Finally, the rates remain very reasonable considering the quality of the services offered.
The employees seem happy and fulfilled in their work, and the bosses are really friendly. Nothing but happiness...... until 2027!!!!

mountain hotel with a gourmet chef
Mr Castillan is a great cook, his cooking is excellent. The rooms are renovated and comfortable. The bar is welcoming and the freee riders atmosphere in front of the cable car is magical. The staff is kind and attentive. We spend a week every year and love this place.

Great little hotel in a perfect location just behind the lift. Lovely staff, great service, great restaurant, comfy rooms and dont forget to test the sauna

The staff was super friendly and helpful. The restaurant was good. There's a place to dry your boots and skis, which is nice. The nearest ski hill isn't always open and anyway it's only for experienced skiers, as it's "hors piste." That said, it's only 40 min from Serre Chevalier.
The little town is cute. The bed was decent but not amazing.
