First time in Bordeaux and staying at this beautiful hotel made it even better. Just a beautiful hotel where all the boxes ticked off; from the look of it, the service from everyone, the room and the facilities. Great gym and awesome restaurant.
The hotel might for some feel a bit away from the center of the city - but we loved it.
Would easily recommend!

Not ever wine cellar can be transformed into a 5* hotel

The stay was very disappointing and we would not recommend staying here.
First, the area in which it is located isn’t really near anything, aside from a busy intersection with loud traffic. Aside from a pizza place across the street (excellent, by the way), there is nothing really within a 10 minute walk. I mean nothing. Normally, that could be made up by some lovely outdoor space, but there is nothing. The driveway struggles to handle two cars. The main entrance is blocked off because that’s where the restaurant is, so one enters through a side door, which is as bad as it sounds.
I do believe Philippe Starck must have hired the photographer.
The rooms aren’t bad but the redevelopment of the hotel meant that the windows are either on the left side of the facing wall or the right side of the wall. It’s awful and means the rooms are darker than necessary. The hallways are even worse. Almost impossible to read the room numbers without a flashlight. That said the interior of the room is nice, but the oblong shape underscores the fact that it wasn’t thought through correctly. The whole thing shows that it’s not a good idea to convert every wine cellar to a 5*(?) hotel.
The restaurant/breakfast/bar is poor. The welcome drink is from a very limited menu and can’t be accessed before 18:30, the 35 euro breakfasts are a joke (the scrambled eggs can be sieved), and the dinner at the Japanese restaurant was so so.
We have Accor Diamond status and it wasn’t recognized, even to the point where the checkin person had no clue what we were talking about weekend breakfasts. Also, there was no recognition that we were there for our anniversary even though we had let the hotel know. Not even a note.
In short, don’t stay here. The pictures may be lovely and the furnishings plush (sometimes, the dinner chairs needed cushions). Stay in the center of Bordeaux at a 3 or 4 star hotel and you’ll be happier.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are truly sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations, particularly given your Diamond status and the occasion of your anniversary.
We sincerely apologize for the lack of recognition of your loyalty status and for the fact that your anniversary was not acknowledged despite being communicated to us. These are important details, and we understand your disappointment.
We also regret that several aspects of the hotel, from the arrival experience and room design to the corridors, breakfast and restaurant experiences, fell short of what you expected from a five-star property. Your comments regarding the quality of breakfast, the limited welcome drink selection and the service experience are particularly valuable and will be shared with the relevant teams.
While our location and the architectural characteristics of the property are inherent to the hotel, we understand that they may not suit every guest, and we appreciate your candid perspective.
We are disappointed that we did not provide you with the memorable anniversary stay you had hoped for. Please accept our sincere apologies, and thank you for helping us identify where greater attention to detail and service consistency are needed.
Warm regards,
The Management Team

The Mondrian is a modern, upscale hotel just outside Bordeaux’s historic center. The location is not premier, but the old city is easily accessible by car or bicycle.
The hotel preserves its historical façade, but don’t expect a French château experience. Behind it is a contemporary structure of concrete, glass, and steel, with the rooms and atmosphere of a modern European business hotel.
The team is young, friendly, and capable, and the Japanese restaurant is superb—definitely one of the highlights of the stay.
However, some details fall short of a true five-star experience: inconsistent number and quality of towels replaced daily, limited attention to bed making, lack of branded toiletries, and occasional back-office activities visible to guests. These are issues that training and attention to detail can solve.
Two shortcomings are more structural. The single driveway serves both taxis and valet parking, so one car can easily block traffic. More importantly, the room air conditioning is inadequate for an international five-star hotel. Even running continuously at its lowest setting, my room would not cool below 73°F (23°C).
Overall, a pleasant modern hotel with a promising team and excellent restaurant, but still short of the consistency expected from a true five-star property.

Unfortunately, Not Worth Five Stars

My husband and I stayed at the Mondrian Bordeaux for six nights, from August 20 to 26. We chose it because of the good reviews and its mention in the Michelin Guide, so we expected a comfortable stay.
Unfortunately, the air conditioning in our first room, 123, did not work at all. We reported it twice, but it took a long time before we were moved to room 126. The AC worked slightly better there, but the room was still extremely hot. We struggled to sleep every night, sometimes not falling asleep until around 5:00 a.m.
A hotel that presents itself as a five-star property should have reliable air conditioning, especially during the summer. This issue affected our entire stay.
On the positive side, the staff were polite and professional, although the service was sometimes slow and not very attentive. Morimoto restaurant was also excellent, and the food was one of the highlights of our stay.
Sadly, I would not return or recommend this hotel to friends or clients. Based on our experience, it felt more like a three-star hotel than a five-star property. I would suggest spending a little more for a more comfortable stay in Bordeaux.

Great stay

Came here for a few days with friends to celebrate a birthday. Lovely room and commual areas. The restaurant is weirdly Asian, but the food was good. There is an indoor pool, but shame there is nothing outdoor. Loved the spa area. Overall a positive stay
