Clean, comfortable rooms and good food

Kind of in the middle of nowhere alongside the highway between Belmopan and Belize City but an impeccably clean and comfortable place to stay with good food for our last night in Belize before heading to the airport the next morning. (We were coming from the interior in a rental car and didn't really want to go back into Belize City.) Good value for both accommodations and farm-to-table food. The fry jacks for breakfast were especially delicious. Cabana rooms are large and well appointed with comfortable beds, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, in-room safe, large shower with good water pressure, plenty of clean towels, and a nice patio for enjoying the sounds of nature. Only weird thing was no shower curtain which made it slightly awkward for our mixed group sharing the room.

Great place to stay!

My family stayed here for a week and it was very nice. The beds were comfortable and the staff was delightful! They kept the room very clean and had things labeled very well. No television, so my children were bored in the evening. The restaurant was very good as well. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here most days and everything we had on the menu was great. It was close to a lot of popular attractions in Belize!

Great for a quick stop

We used the Cabanas as a place to lay our heads after our flights, and for one extra night after cave kayaking.
The owner and her mother(?) are very kind people, always checking up to see if our food and accommodation were suitable.
The room was clean, no frills. Shower takes about 5 minutes to heat up but that was no big deal to us. We felt safe.
Housekeeping went above and beyond for a "mid-range" place such as Cheers. They folded my pajamas neatly on my bed and even took the hair out of my brush (really, you didn't have to!)
The only thing that threw me off was the sign saying "if you MUST smoke in the room it's a charge for an extra night".. why even have an option? We didn't like sleeping in a room where we knew people likely had smoked.
The food was pretty good, waitresses kind of seemed like they didn't want to be there, though.
Our favorite dishes were the chicken burger and the pork chop special with biscuits.
MUST try the cookies in the morning.. very very good
Overall, great value for a short stay or if you need absolute privacy and remoteness. Thanks Cheers :)

Midway

Along the George Price highway, between Belmopan and Belize City, is Cheers Restaurant. There are also three charming cabanas. I could not make my final destination in one day so chose to stay here. And was not disappointed. My cabana could easily have taken four more people. The bed was super comfy. The shower is huge and even has a place to sit. And the towels are lovely! The water closet is private. Though I did not use the safe, there was one as well as a coffee maker and coffee. It was a hot night so the A/C was welcome. Neat touches of local art on the walls. When I opened the door in the morning , there were birds sitting in the fence five feet away. I drank my coffee sitting outside at table and chairs provided. I really recommend this spot. The Belize Zoo is a mile down the road so a side trip there is easy. I stayed for breakfast and had fry jacks. These are light fried pastry popular in Belize. The Cheers fry jacks are really well done. I had fresh orange juice too. So a neat place to stay with added bonus of a good restaurant.

Traveling to and from Belize airport

Cheers Cabanas and Restaurant is located at mile 34 1/4 on the Western Highway on the way to Belmopan and is 3km past the Belize Zoo when leaving Belize City.
Anita (originally from Mission, British Columbia, Canada), her daughter and staff keep the rooms spotless, comfortable and at very reasonable rates.
The restaurant is open on three sides so that you can listen to the birds and watch the hummingbirds buzz around the numerous feeders. The food is excellent but save room for dessert! The carrot cake and carmel flan were homemade, as is everything, and reason alone to eat there. Don't be worried about seeing the odd gecko and hearing it chirp like a bird.
There's also a great little gift shop with prices better than anyplace else we went to in Belize. It's a great place to pick up souvenirs instead of at the airport!
Carlos, one of Anita's workers, showed us around the farm that has about 100 guinea fowl, geese, ducks, chickens, goats, dogs, horses and a curious colt that likes to nibble then bite!
I would recommend staying at Cheers on your first and last days of your visit to Belize, especially if your end destination is in the south part of Belize. Avoid driving at night as there are so many people walking or riding bikes along narrow roads.
