We had a wonderful time. Everything went smoothly and it was worth the price. We definitely will be back.

Disappointing Stay/Worst Hotel I've Ever Stayed at in the Caribbean
I am not a picky traveler and usually prefer to travel on a budget because I care much more about experiencing the island and exploring the destination than staying at a luxury hotel. Unfortunately, my recent stay at Divi Southwinds was still very disappointing and by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed at in the Caribbean!
We stayed August 2026, and experienced several issues throughout our stay. Our room was never actually cleaned. Housekeeping was only available to remove trash, and because of the housekeeping schedule, there was no room cleaning or bathroom servicing during our entire stay. The room itself had several maintenance issues, including a broken bedroom drawer, rust in the shower, and a bathroom sink that repeatedly overflowed. The shower water was also only lukewarm. Our room key bracelets stopped working about two days before checkout, which was another inconvenience. The resort’s pool bar/restaurant was closed for our entire stay, and there was essentially no entertainment, which made the resort feel very quiet and underwhelming. The television also only had about five channels, and most of the time they didn’t work because of poor signal. The grounds and overall property appeared dated and in need of updating. We also had cat feces directly outside our room, which was especially unpleasant. I understand that this is not a luxury resort, and I wasn’t expecting luxury. However, basic cleanliness, functioning amenities, maintenance, and some level of entertainment are reasonable expectations.
Barbados itself was beautiful. Savvy on the Beach, Pat's in Oistins, and the Fish cakes at Sharkey's are a MUST! Also, the local bus vans are very convenitent for 1.75 US per person. We enjoyed experiencing the island but unfortunately the hotel was a significant disappointment. I would consider returning to Barbados, but I would choose a different resort next time.

Lovely Resort, Disappointing Customer Service
We have previously stayed a bit closer to Bridgetown, but thought we’d try out the St Lawrence Gap area this time. We ended up arriving a day late for our reservation, as our plane was turned around back to Toronto in mid-air when the Barbados air traffic controllers went on strike. However, luckily we made it back the next day. We got a lovely room on the 5th floor - 1 bedroom suite, pool view. There is a small but complete kitchen, including microwave, fridge and smooth cooktop, coffee maker, blender and toaster, all dishes, etc. 4 person dining table. LR with sofa and chair, large TV. Nice balcony with view of the main pool. Separate bedroom with king bed, fair bit of storage, large TV. There is a safe, somewhat awkwardly positioned in the closet. Bathroom has large walk-in shower with nice pressure and lots of warm water, separate sink. Had some fun getting the AC adjusted comfortably, along with the bedroom overhead light/fan combination. King bed and pillows were very comfy. WiFi was good. We really enjoyed being able to make our breakfast, and eat on the balcony, overlooking the pool.
The grounds are beautiful, and very well-maintained. There are even several cute cats who make their home down by the pool, and on a couple of the patios.
We headed to the Activity Centre for orientation, and she was able to give us information about the activities at the resort, and also book some outside activities for us, and a dinner reservation. They have a challenging mini golf course, and we enjoyed the Beach BBQ with entertainment - someone playing steel drums and a fire dancer. Also well-attended. Manager’s cocktail party at Bajan Breeze Bar, with some local vendors.
There is a lovely wide sandy beach, just a short walk across the street from the hotel. There are tables and chairs for the beachside bar/restaurant, and lots of loungers and umbrellas. People seem to move along, and not save loungers all day, so no problem getting a couple. Windy with quite big waves every day - we did venture into the water a bit, but no real swimming or snorkelling. Generally came to the main pool to swim. Fair number of people at the pool most days, some families, but again, able to get loungers and umbrella. People don’t seem to save. There are 2 smaller pools as well.
The mini mart on site is handy to pick up small items.
The location is great, close to loads of good restaurants, bars, shops. Taxis are available, and easy to get a ZR ($3.50 BBD) bus just outside the gate.
Our one disappointment was that in order to make a claim on our travel insurance to be reimbursed for the first night that we missed due to the strike, our insurance company requested that the hotel just confirm that they had not already given us a refund for that night. A simple enough request, but the hotel would not even answer/respond to our emailed request. Not very helpful.

Great Place to stay
Divi was welcoming and clean. The staff was polite and helpful. We just wished there was more restaurants and activities and bars on the physical location.

Fantastic family holiday
We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments as a family of 4. The hotel has done a great job of refurbishing the place. It's very clean and the facilities are just what we needed
- 3 pools (we loved the one by the beach), pitch and putt, tennis courts etc
- lovely quiet beach
- small shop (fairly limited stock, you will need to visit a supermarket if you want to eat in)
- access to some great bars and restaurants on St Lawrence Gap
- laundry facilities, beach towels etc
I do wish you could get drinks and snacks by the main pool - when we were there you had to walk to Pure Ocean (hotel restaurant) which isn't far, just slightly inconvenient.
Couple of recommendations
- There are 2 'The Cake Lady' Coffee Shops within walking distance - the cakes here were soooo good.
- We only ate in at Pure Ocean once - it took ages to get the food. After that we just ordered it well in advance and collected the food and ate by the pool instead.
Would definitely go back!
