EXCEPTIONAL!! All round food, service and venue.
My family and I came across Mittagong Hotel on our day trip from Wollongong.
Taken over very recently by new owner and management, it’s so tastefully fully renovated in keeping with the many old timeless, classic charms and features.
This being said, I felt I had to review as we’ve returned twice since, with family and friends.
Both food and the very welcoming friendly service are outstanding, hard to come by now a-days.
There’s are variety of three seated areas. A very comfortable outdoor seating area which is also dog friendly, very large indoor seating area with bar an open kitchen plus wood fire oven and also a very cosy bistro area which has another bar, large tv screens and open fire.
The menu has so many choices, very well priced for great quality, many with local produce. I love that some choices you can choose a small or large serving, I noticed that there are also great choices for people with special dietary needs. The kids menu was great, not your typical frozen processed meals you get at most venues.
The standouts, and believe me there are many are the Pumpkin and Ricotta rotoli, wood fired pizzas, in particular the potato and truffle, house cured salmon coconut jalapeño, mixed grill board with many meats to sample. The food here is if not better than most of the fine dining restaurants back home.
We can’t wait to return again soon. 11/10!

Better quality and value elsewhere
Prebooked for our group. Food took almost 2 hours to come out. When it did finally arrive, most of the dishes were cold. Pizzas were ok, skimpy on the toppings and cold, but wood fired. Burgers were dry and small, not worth $30!! Staff were abrupt and not helpful at all. Food was definitely not worth the premium price. Amenities were not stocked with even basic supplies of toilet paper and soap. We are locals and this by far was one of the worst lunches we have had in the area, such a disappointing experience.

FANTASTIC, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Everything was wonderful, food, service and coffee! We were a group of 26, all our meals arrived within minutes of each other, everyone loved their food, coffee was great, absolutely no complaints, we will definitely go back!

Very comfy for an overnight stop
Very comfy bed/pillows and clean facilities. We stayed in a room which had a shared bathroom and had no issues with any waiting for facilities - there was 3 toilets and 2 showers available, all of which were newly renovated and clean. The room was very big and had a bar fridge and tv. The walls/doors are thin however so noise does travel easily. We were in an end room and the person next door was snoring loudly. The dinner in the restaurant downstairs was very good. There is no lift, so it could be a few flights of stairs to your room depending on what level.

NO COFFEE!!!!!
Went for dinner with family and friends, the restaurant and food was amazing.
The big mistake at this venue is the BAR staff turned off the coffee machine at 7.30pm, our entree had just been served. This is NOT the fault of the hard working people who run the kitchen. The bar is totally independant of the Bistro/Resaurant. The owners/management of this Hotel need to inform their staff that part of a dining experience is having coffee at the end of your meal. The poor people running the kitchen are never going to sell a desert while the Bar staff are turning off the coffee machine that early in the evening. Unfortunately I don't know if I would return for this reason, when I go out for dinner, I want the whole experience - dinner, desert and coffee. If you don't know how to run a restaurant properly, maybe just stick to selling beer. Such a shame, was all set to recommend this venue to family and friends, based on the great food, but won't now due to NO COFFEE. Unfortunately this is not the first restaurant in the Highlands that I have found this practice of turning off the coffee machine early. It's not a great recommendation for serious diners. It's pretty sad if when making a dinner reservation you have to ask - "can I get coffee at the end of dinner?"
