A real authentic place

A very simple place located in the village above the Tatev Monastery. A different world. The real Armenia. Super friendly people, but they only speak Armenian and Russian. The room is very basic and the shower is not the best of quality. They will prepare you dinner with real local dishes, wine and coffee. The place is not easy to find, as there are no signs, but everyone in the village knows where is Aspet. The best is to come by cable car and there are taxis which can bring you there if you have luggage. The gravel road to get there is long, but is possible with a normal car. Beware, this is not a luxury place at all.

Never again.

I booked a room trusting the many excellent reviews, but I was bitterly surprised: we were given a room that was not the one shown in the ad, the toilet had only an old toilet roll with no toiletries. As the price of the room is not low for Armenia, we were disappointed.
Moreover, we had a very negative experience with the food: we paid quite a high price ( 5.000 AMD per person, consider that for the same price we had fresh fish barbecue in Sevan for 2 people), and we were given food that was neither fresh or genuine. We have been in Armenia long enough to understand that. As a dessert, the lady took from the table of other guests a half eaten plate of supermarket donuts and a half empty pot of tea and gave them to us.
Seriously.
But what is worse is that the following morning she gave us the same donuts, and the bread of the day before ( note that in Tatev there are bakeries).
Finally, we asked her if we could leave our backpack at her place for a couple of hours. She agreed, but when we returned to pick it up, the backpack was in the yard, completely unattended.
This is the only place in Armenia where we felt ripped off.

Armenia's kindest village Tatev!

If you want to meet very kind, helpful and happy people, visit Tatev, experience the beauty of the mountains, feel the calmness of the village, visit the Monastery and feel the grace of the Armenian highlands.
I highly recommend you to stay at B&B Aspet, which is a very clean and cozy family run guesthouse located in Tatev village not far from Tatev Monastery. The hosts are exceptionally hospitable and friendly. From the very first moment you feel home. Samvel and Aghunik are always eager to help you and to introduce you to local food, traditions and dialect. The food is brilliant! I really loved the homemade jams, honey, dairy products, lavash, delicious dishes with beans, pickles, different types of herbal tea and juices... I am really looking forward to visiting them again.

Great Stay at Aspet

This is a nice guest house with a lovely proprietor and his family. The food is delicious. Some how they met us at the cable car and drove us up through town. The place overlooks the mountains. Gorgeous. Two nice day hikes in the area and they came to pick us up when we were done.
Make sure to book a room with a bathroom if you want it. Those are the best rooms. The family room has a shower on another level.

Quiet place in the mountain village

Accommodation is in pleasantly furnished rooms with shower (hot water), excellent food, wonderful view of the mountains. The owners are very hospitable. Landlady is excellent cook. Dinners and breakfasts were culinary experience for us. Homemade honey is unique, we took several bottles with us home. The landlord is a man with an open heart, speaks excellent Russian and makes delicious "samohonka". We were very pleased to spent with them 3 nights. An unforgettable experience!!
