A Touch of home in Albania

My wife and I are Josée and Joe nomadic travelers who choose to visit Tirana Albania city. Although we didn’t know Barb and her husband we stayed nearby and found them. From the moment we entered their restaurant we were comfortable. We struck up a conversation with Barbara ate chatted with others feeling completely happy. For us American & Canadian it’s cool sitting in a little bit of both our countries. The food was excellent as well as their pleasant staff. Cold draft beers full bar incredible specials at very good prices and I’m sure the B&B is as good as the rest. Come enjoy an amazing city and feel at home here

Almost ruined the vacation

I have spent several thousand nights in hotel rooms in my life. But there was only one accommodation (in Vienna) that I would rate worse than the Stephen Center Bed & Breakfast. First of all, I did not choose this, it was part of a package tour.
I'll start with the positive aspects: the location is great, the shower water is hot, the towels are top-notch! There is a mini fridge and a kind of desk. These are things that I really appreciate!
Unfortunately (and please read to the end, it gets hair-raising!) there is also a lot to complain about. My room (number 6) smelled the whole time of cooking fumes from the very close restaurant kitchen, one floor below. The slatted frame slipped out of its guide twice and I had to put my bed (with a saggy mattress) back together twice in the middle of the night. You can only sleep with earplugs because all the building technology (air conditioning, extractor systems, etc.) makes a lot of noise. The view from the window would be nice if the hotel laundry wasn't hanging there and various pipes weren't spoiling the view. The cleanliness was so-so (the top cupboard was completely covered in dust with unidentifiable objects in it - rubber rags and furniture accessories, the wastepaper basket hadn't been emptied).
The hotel's restaurant is closed on Sundays (it's a missionary Christian house), breakfast was prepared in a common room. It was more than modest. The eggs were hard-boiled, with toast, jam and a banana. Let's stay with breakfast: On the other days there was a breakfast set to choose from in the restaurant. The eggs Benedict were sour, the special egg plate was rather indigestible. On the last day (I flew back very early) I wasn't offered any breakfast at all (even though I had booked).
Speaking of the restaurant: I arrived very late on the first evening and thought it would be practical to eat directly in the hotel restaurant. I ordered a pizza. This was then burnt and I was asked if I wanted to eat it. I explained that I preferred an unburnt pizza. I should just try it, was the reply. So I ate the unburnt parts.
All in all, I would have given the accommodation maybe two, maybe even almost three stars, but the hotel management prevented this. I would remind you that I had booked a package holiday!!! That means that I had paid the money for the overnight stay and breakfast (see above) long in advance at home. But now they wanted me to pay again on site.
Of the three days of my holiday that were actually available to me, I spent one and a half dealing with the travel agent, tour operator, travel agency and hotel. I had to write several dozen emails and WhatsApps on site and also had fun at home with tons of messages and phone calls. Stephen Center simply claimed that they had no contract with the tour operator and that I had to pay. The tour operator then issued a quick order, but when it became clear that a commission fee would have to be paid, Stephen Center refused that too. I paid again on site and the operator assured me that I would be reimbursed.
Why, I have to have someone explain this to me, does a hotel accept overnight stays from a contractual partner if it is not prepared to fulfill its part of the contract? Why is Stephen Center settling its dispute on the back of the innocent traveler?
I assume this is an attempt at fraud. There will be travelers who do not have an Albanian eSIM card and can complain and get ripped off. Which is a disgrace, especially given the supposedly Christian background of the house.
This house is clearly not recommended!

Tasty

Staff great, place was clean and tidy.
Had the lasagne special with Greek salad washed down with a large Stella. All was excellent and compared to UK very cheap.
Would definitely return if I'm in Tirana again.

Prices

Good food, but prices are a little expensive for Albania, apparently most people who come will be foreigners, small glass of beer is pricey 300, leke:( wow, pizza is like amercan pizza, I’m from chicago so i know:)

Friendly and well located

This is nice huesthouse with restaurant in the centre of Tirana . The rooms whilst basic ade adequate although because of street noise I would recommend rooms to the back side . There is a breakfast allowance at the restaurant downstairs. As a place to meet people its ideal being central and in the mewly renovated square and pedestrian area with a great selection of shops and restaurants. . The basic accomodation is made up for by the friendly staff in my view .
