Pleasantly surprised with this budget appartment

We stayed in a traditional B&B in Whitby for one night and as the weather was so nice we decided to book another night in a different accomodation as we didn't want to pay £117 that we had paid in the B&B.We looked on Booking .com and found a night in the Clarkson street appartment Discovery accomodation on Silver Street for £31!!! We thought we would give it a go and if it was horrible we would book somewhere else.I will start with the negative which was actually getting in to the appartment. We tried getting into the main blue door on Silver street with the code sent to us but couldn't. My husband rang the office and was directed to the right of the building up some metal stairs and eventually entered Cockle shell appartment.We were very pleasantly surprised on entering,from the entrance there are stairs down to the living and bathroom area and stairs up to the bedroom.The living area is basic but clean and comfortable with a kitchenette behind doors with a sink microwave toaster and fridge-tea and coffee making facilities are in the living room.The appartment is carpeted through out with what looks like a new carpet.The bathroom is clean with a large shower(a little temperamental) and modern glass sink -we kept the hall light on to navigate to the bathroom in the night.The bedroom is large with good storage clean bedding comfortable bed and towels in sealed bags .I worried it might be noisy but the only noise was the seagulls that woke us up!!All in all we were very pleased and couldn't believe what was provided for what we paid.A word of warning,if you use the car park a little further up on the right take coins -it was £10 something for 24 hours and my husband was scammed when he tried to download parking app so please be aware.

Filthy kitchen

We stayed in the apartment named waves, accommodation is not easy to find took a few trips around the block to find it. Location was fine, the condition of the place was shocking. Under our bed had obviously had no been disturbed by a vacuum cleaner in quite a while, controls for shower were broken or missing, nowhere to hang towels or clothes in the bathroom while showering. The kitchen was disgusting. Cooker was completely useless, the hottest ring of the four took almost 5 mins to melt a slice of butter so we gave up. We had expected self catering but the cooker stopped that happening causing extra expense for eating out. The kitchen door was wedged open with the remains of a used toilet roll, surfaces had ingrained dirt. Skirting boards filthy, doors filthy, cooker an absolute disgrace, all rings had thick burning and staining and fridge kept milk at barely below room temperature.i would definitely not reccomend this place. I did email the company bit had no reply. Outside area has lighting but was not on when we came home at night. We had to use our phone torches to light our way. 5th time we have stayed in whitby the worst experience by far. To add insult to injury you are warned that a minimum £100 charge will be added if you cause them to do extra cleaning...oh the irony

Disgusting. Can't even bring ourselves to make a cup of tea.

Do not book!
We are currently staying and its disgusting, hard to move accommodation in the height of summer with a 1 year old and dog, as suggested by their customer service when we complained...
The room is thick of dog hair, the work surfaces are sticky, oven is not disgusting, the bowl as part of crockery set had food in it. Strawberry left on windowsill from last guest, toothpaste up the walls in bathroom, shower is disgusting, bed sheets stained
We worked really bloody hard and you come away hoping for a nice time and its just stress, we are both so disappointed and annoyed. When we called this afternoon to rectify we were just told to leave and receive refund through booking.com , which is pretty impossible given its August, we have a dog and only want two nights.
They would not offer a partial refund, and said a cleaner can come by tomorrow to sort. Then called again and said today , well its not happened.
Spent so much of our time on the phone to some call centre in Asia?!? And its not been rectified. It should be illegal to do this to families, we have no choice but to stay.
Its so grim.

A good little find.

It was fine for a 1-3 night stay. Great location. Reasonably priced. The bed was comfortable and clean. The windows could do with a clean though

Terrible

Got to be honest really disappointed with the captains rest photos make it look great and really nice, in reality it's terrible, not worth the money for a nights stay sadly won't be coming back it's in some serious need of renovating carpets not clean, sealer round shower moldy, sealer cracked and missing round basin, small kitchen worktop sealer all cracked, curtains shocking, the window blinds don't look like they have been cleaned for years, as well as the windows filthy, the walls all need re painting, the place is just run down in all honesty just shabby I feel disrespectful to those who own it but if it was ours it wouldnt be this shabby or in need of a revamp in all honesty I've been in better garden bars and stayed in better places working away absolutly awful in all Honesty absolutely disgusting place
