We got a very warm welcome and the hotel is characterful. All the staff were helpful. The food was very good and the breakfast was very enjoyable with quality ingredients.
The only thing we didn’t like was that we booked two rooms, one being a twin and of a higher standard than the double. We were offered two of the same lower grade rooms. We were eventually given the second better room which was lovely, but if it hadn’t been available we would have been paying a premium for the lower standard room. Apparently it was something to do with having booked through Expedia???
The amount she had on the system showed that we had paid less than we actually had. I could prove this as I had the email confirmations. an explanation would be welcome .

Very enjoyable.
My wife and I booked The Bear for a long weekend stay. We were very pleased with our experience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Aloysius Room. It was a lovely big room with an enormous bed (very comfy). The bath/shower room was very modern and the bath was a feature in itself (See photo). The room did overlook the main road and you could hear the traffic noise, but this wasn't really a problem for us. Although The Bear didn't have its own car park, there are several nearby - both short and long stay. We parked at the Connenger Long Stay car park. It was a four minute walk from there to the hotel. Parking fees were of the order of £6-7 for 24 hours. I used the JustPark app to pay. Phone reception around Wareham is a bit borderline, but I was able to connect the app from the car park (O2 provider).
We had our first evening meal at The Bear. It was very tasty and reasonably priced. The service was excellent. We had meals elsewhere for the rest of the weekend simply for a bit of variety. We had all our breakfasts at there. They were excellent, with plenty of options. My only gripe was the meat sausage. It was disappointing. Rather flavourless.
One small thing I do commend The Bear for, which many hotels are dropping these days, is the provision of complimentary packets of biscuits in the room. A small thing, I know, but adds that extra touch of class.
All in all, an excellent experience and I would highly recommend The Bear.

Stunning hotel right on the high street.
I picked The Bear in desperation due to short notice and a business travel need so I didn't really pay too much attention to the place. Frequently this would end badly but not here, I really loved The Bear!
Let's get the only down point out of the way first, as it may be a deal breaker for some; they have no parking. There is a fair bit of paid parking nearby but this may not suit everyone.
Check in was simple, short and I was quickly in my room. Walking through the hotel the decor in the public spaces was wonderful and there was even a comfy sofa on one of the landings with extra water / tea / coffee should you need a top-up.
All around the hotel are paintings of bears and each room is named after a famous bear; Yogi, Paddington, Baloo etc. I like this!
My room, whilst not particularly big, was lovely. The bed was large, super comfy and had a decent pillow selection. There was also bedside plug sockets...a surprising rarity in many hotels. There's just enough storage for a short stay such as wardrobe space but if you're there for while you may struggle in the room I was in. The complementary tea / coffee / biscuits/ etc were all high end and the bathroom soaps all good quality too. Whilst only minor these details matter when it comes to n overall rating.
The bathroom was a good size and the shower was way above average size with plenty of room to move.
In a sad reflection of people, the lovely Bear coasters had warning stickers on them to say if you take them you will be charged. Why do so many people think they can steal hotel fixtures and fittings? Oh, they are available from the craft shop next door!
Breakfast was in a good sized room at the end of the hotel. There was a buffet style selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurts with the cooked items on a menu. I had eggs benedict which was perfect!
I also eat here in the evening, but I'll review that separately.
Throughout my stay the staff were lovely and engaging with just enough interaction without being over the top. There was a slight hiccup at check out, but it was quickly resolved without fuss or appreciable delay.
I'd very happily stay here again and highly recommend The Bear.

Great place to eat.
Fantastic friendly staff, first class food, we went on Wednesday so good we booked again for the Thursday. Well done to all there.
