Excellent experience
Excellent experience. We stayed for one night. Excellent location. Spacious, clean, and very comfortable rooms. Very kind and courteous owners. Excellent breakfast. We know where to stay when we are in that area.

1* Hotel with a poorly maintained property
From the photos this hotel looked really nice, so we booked it. We tried to find the property and Google maps took us to a back street location and by chance we found a plaque outside. As we walked into the courtyard we found it smelling, mould green on the floor. We had no instructions on how to find the entrance so waited for 20 minutes, pressing various buzzers to apartments but no-one was answering. Eventually Carmen opens a window and shouts down after I’d WhatsApp her. The staircase was steep and I had to lug three suitcases up which was awful. The lights are on timers and sometimes don’t come on so it’s virtually pitch black. We were shown into the room and was left to settle. It was then we realised that the room was not as it was shown in the photos. It was dirty, poorly maintained and not as described. The entrance door was making a horrendous noise everytime the door opened, it hadn’t been painted in years, the main room had tiles down but a lot of them weren’t stuck down so moved a lot, everytime I walked across the floor I either tripped on a tile or the tiles moved. The walls had bubbles of damp plaster, a wardrobe from the 1970’s in poor condition. The TV didn’t work, the beds were hard and like sleeping on a concrete slap. There were marks everywhere, rotten timber doors and the shower cubicle cracked and dirty. The kettle was full of limescale so, glasses cloudy from years of use and generally it was poorly maintained and dirty. I contacted Expedia and said we can’t stay here and they advised me to cancel the booking after they said they would speak with the owner. I contacted Expedia at 8pm, at 9:15pm we were getting ready for bed as we knew it would be a long day tomorrow we get the owner banging on the door. I opened the door to be confronted by the owner and her soon asking why I’d cancelled the booking, I found this intimidating and not safe. She then asked what was wrong and after telling her he said well it’s an old building. I explained it’s poorly maintained so she then says ‘so you want to go now!!! I said No of course not, she seemed happy to throw us out at 9:30pm at night with no where to go. I said we will leave tomorrow at checkout. The next morning as we were getting ready to leave we get the owner at our door saying’Check out is at 10:50am so are we going? She then starts saying oh do you want to see another room? With everything packed and another hotel booked we declined. Then to add insult to injury she said to me you need to pay the City Tax, so I went to reception to pay the €9 even though we had paid £500 for 4 nights and only been there less than 15 hours!!! I paid it, later on I find out that the City tax is only for over 12’s and my daughter was 10. I read all the reviews and looked at the photos and I never thought it would be that bad, very clever marketing to make you think this is an amazing hotel but they use the Roma suite and log to make you think it’s really nice rather than a 1* hotel down some back street area. Construction site opposite and Pizza shop. We didn’t think we would get a full refund but at least the 3 nights we didn’t stay, Expedia came back and said Carmen refused to refund one cent, awful property and would never stay there again.

After we declined your request for a refund on a four-night, non-refundable reservation, you sent us a message through Expedia stating: “Ok well I left you a nice review.” This review followed immediately afterwards.
Reviews should provide an honest account of a stay; they should not be used as pressure to obtain a refund that is not due under the booking conditions. When a negative review is announced after a refund has been refused, its objectivity must unfortunately be questioned. This practice is unfair not only to accommodation providers, but also to future travellers who rely on reviews for accurate information.
From the moment you raised your concerns, we made ourselves available to help and offered you another room, which you declined. The following morning, when you did not come to breakfast, we became concerned that you might already have left. We came to check, offered you breakfast and once again invited you to view another room. You declined because you had already booked elsewhere.
At no time were you threatened or asked to leave without accommodation. Check-out is at 10:30 a.m., yet you remained until approximately 11:30 a.m. without being pressured to leave earlier.
Home47 is situated in Salerno’s historic centre, inside an eighteenth-century building. Choosing accommodation in a historic centre naturally means staying in historic architecture rather than in a modern building. Nevertheless, our property is regularly maintained, with improvement work carried out every year. The many excellent reviews regarding our cleanliness, care and hospitality speak for themselves.
You stayed overnight, used the room and then chose to leave despite our repeated offers of assistance and alternative accommodation. The reservation was non-refundable and the room had been reserved exclusively for you for the full stay; therefore, the requested refund was not approved.
We take genuine criticism seriously, but we cannot accept an exaggerated and misleading account written after an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a refund by invoking the prospect of a damaging review.

Charming place! Carmen was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay. The property was beautiful, spotless, and in a fantastic location. The breakfast was delicious and exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful experience and would happily stay here again. Highly recommended!

Loft experience in Salerno
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in the "Loft". It was a 1 bedroom (loft) with a kitchen, small bathroom and large living room. The "bedroom" was directly over the living room. In order to get to the "bedroom" you had to go up a narrow set of stairs. This was precarious during the day, but even more dangerous at night if you wanted to go downstairs to the bathroom. The room came with a fairly limited breakfast. The biggest complaint was that the loft was a dust bowl. If you have any kind of breathing issues, I would strongly recommend avoiding this room. The hotel is located in a great location with many restaurants, the port and the waterfront nearby.

Thank you for appreciating our central location. The Loft’s internal staircase is clearly shown in the photos and may not suit everyone. We are surprised by your comments about the dust and breakfast, as cleanliness and our varied breakfast are consistently praised. Had you informed us during your stay, we would have intervened immediately.
