Great charm in the Sassi, but the experience is not yet complete

Family stay, with wife and children, in the heart of the Sassi di Matera.
The location is extraordinary: completely immersed in the historic center, within walking distance of everything that makes Matera unique. However, it should be considered that the structure is accessible only on foot and, with children and luggage, access can be tiring. A difficulty that is however compensated by the beauty and atmosphere of the place.
Management communicates quickly and clearly. Access took place independently, even in the evening, through codes and key recovery in the common area: a practical and well-organized system.
The apartment is very nice and well-kept, with a refined and tasteful design. An important investment is perceived to create a luxury effect within a historic structure, with a visually successful result. The spaces are large and open-plan, without real divisions: a stylistic choice that you may or may not like, especially when traveling with your family.
Comfortable beds and good overall comfort. Nice also the details of the sanitary and lighting.
Some aspects, however, are not up to the level that the structure would like to express: TV reception problems, soap and shampoo dispensers almost empty, fireplaces present but not usable, ineffective and impractical heating.
Breakfast is rather limited, with little choice and no elements you would expect from such a property. Even the breakfast room is cold and unwelcoming.
There is also a lack of a refrigerator in the apartment and a minimal selection of snacks or drinks, as well as ancillary services that really complement the experience.
Overall a very charming structure, with great potential, but today it stops at 4 stars. Beautiful to live, but still far from a true five star level.

I'd look for another option.

Several things made me not advise this place. Little willingness to help the customer, miscommunication with WhatsApp operators whose costs make them pay you for not giving you the right information. You are greeted by Irene in a hurry, check in at a standstill, with lights out, in a place that seems abandoned, without even offering a glass of water. Common spaces without proper maintenance. At breakfast there is no protein option. I would look for other options for the price you pay. To highlight the view

Good location/Poor service

Complicated location, go light on luggage. Poor disposition of the person who receives you. The shower was not working (there are no permanent staff) we had to disarm the knob and only then we managed to have water. Breakfast varied. Clean room, dusty common places, rundown and dirty patio.

Matera with comfort

We stayed as a family at Maison d’Ax in Matera in a beautiful suite for 4 people, furnished in an original way that recalls the Moorish style, embellished with design details. Breakfast was good and the view of the Sasso Caveoso simply unparalleled. An unforgettable experience, which I highly recommend to those who want to experience Matera in a unique atmosphere.

A magical place. A unique experience. Accommodation with attention to detail that combines past and present. Very refined solutions and furnishings. Some choices that can be criticized but certainly to be tested.
The garden is the terrace are touching.
The view is breathtaking.
Extremely professional Welcoming and great care of the relationship and communication with the customer.
The breakfast was excellent.
(Remember to travel light. A backpack for the night is enough and advances).
