A reasonably priced friendly customer-focused property. A convenient spot in downtown Rize within walking distance

Basic central hotel

Aydogan Otel is in central Rize, a short 5 to 10 minute walk to the sea, central square, market and many shops. It is just off the main coast road in a busy street.
Valet parking involved double parking in the street, and leaving the keys for hotel staff to park the car when a roadside space became available. A paid car park is about 200m away in another street.
There are rooms of varying types. The standard single room was small but adequate. The decoration was dated, but the room was clean. Shower room was OK, and there was hot water each time it was needed.
Reception staff friendly and helpful. English was spoken.
Lift and stairs. Street views only unless hanging out of the window and looking down the street to the sea.
Breakfast was typical Turkish kahvaltı with eggs cooked to order. OK food in a buffet service.
Aydogan Otel delivered for the price paid. Basic hotel for a low price. If you are considering the price of a suite, then maybe, you should be thinking of a different hotel.

Average hotel

We stayed here at the Aydogan Hotel in June 2018 as a couple. The location of the hotel is decent - about a five minute walk from the main market which isn't too bad. There is no view from the rooms as such, if that's what you are looking for. The cleanliness level of the rooms and the toilet is also just about average. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast isn't good at all. The staff will not understand English, but that's the problem with the entire region of Rize and not peculiar to the hotel at all. The owner of the hotel is always around and is a very helpful guy! The only reason you should stay in this hotel (or 'otel', as they call it in Turkey) is because it is priced decently. That's all! If you stay here, do visit the fruit market close by (around 50 metres) to enjoy the local fresh fruits, especially cherries :)

Sadly, NOT worth being recommended

Much as I enjoy giving high ratings to hotels I have stayed in, I wish I could do the same with Aydogan hotel. Upon arrival, I was given a room where the fridge was out of order and the bathroom mouldy; the shower door cracked. A poor breakfast - one can put up with, but not when you learn that the coffee machine is also out of use (perhaps broken too!!) and you can not get a decent cup of coffee in the morning. Then this is a disgrace!
I appreciate being moved to another room the next day as well as I could see the effort made by pleasant front desk staff to compensate for the faults which they should not feel responsible for but the management of the hotel.
The last drawback is that nobody speaks English at the reception. Luckily I had my University hosts who I could rely on, otherwise the stay would have been a nightmare.
All in all, I reget not being able to recommend the hotel.

Worst hotel ever in years!

This was the worst hotel ever! The hotel crew was rude. Towels were disguisting. When we booked 2 months ahead, diner was included, but at arrival they refused nd denied. Also, be carefull with your ID (dont leave behind a copy), they wont give it back (unless you force them)!
