The warmest recommendation for Moshi, Tanzania! ✨
If you are planning a trip to Tanzania (whether it’s to climb Kilimanjaro, go on a safari, or do some volunteering), I just want to share an absolutely amazing place in Moshi, run by the most warm-hearted local woman, Welly.
Hostel Kiliwood is beautifully located in a quiet area (Rau) with a view of the mountain. It has a great vibe, top-notch WiFi, hot showers, and a lovely garden with a campfire where it’s super easy to meet other travelers.
The best part is that, besides running the hostel, she also organizes very fair and reliable safaris, day trips (Materuni, Chemka Hot Springs, etc.), and even runs her own local NGO/volunteer organization. When you stay there or book a tour, your money goes directly towards supporting her projects in the local community, rather than a big foreign travel agency.

Place to be in Moshi
We stayed with Welly for three nights in August 2026. During this time we experiences a hospitality, kindness and care second to none. She immediately made us feel welcomed and comfortable. We especially enjoyed helping her prepare dinner and getting a intimate glimpse into Tanzanian culture. The rooms and the hostel are clean and warmly designed. We hope to be back one day and enjoying another plate of Ugali with her.

Amazing Hostel Stay in Moshi + Killamonjaro Day Hike
Stayed here for 3 nights, incredible space, Willy is a phenomenal host. Amazing value and experience. She was so kind and welcoming, plus she makes a delicious breakfast. I also did the Kilamanjro hike with Emmanuel and I cannot say enough good things about him. We spent 9 hours together and I felt like I made a friend by the end of it. Really appreciated his knowledge about the wildlife and his support along the way. I would recommend him and Willy both of my friends are staying in Moshi.

Best place in Moshi
Kiliwoods Hostel is an absolute gem in Moshi. The host, Welima, is simply incredible welcoming, warm, and genuinely caring. Staying here truly feels like being at home. We had fascinating and meaningful conversations, and she goes above and beyond to make sure every guest feels comfortable.
The hostel itself is a cozy home, with a lovely green courtyard and garden where you can relax peacefully. Its location is perfect: slightly away from the noise of the city, yet very easy to reach by tuktuk (about 700 TZS). From here, access to the stunning Materuni Waterfall is super convenient.
There’s also the opportunity to visit the orphanage supported by Welima local community organization Worthy of Hope Tanzania, which is a beautiful and impactful experience. Amazing!
It’s a wonderful place with a beautiful garden and a very kind and helpful host! We had a great time here. The breakfast was delicious, and there were even free snacks and drinking water available. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby.
