Ji'an is home to Gan Cheng Township. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Taroko National Park and Liyu Lake Visitors Center, while Houshan: Shingo Story Museum and Remains of East Coast Line Railway are cultural highlights. Lian Cheng Lotus Garden and Zhikaxuan Forest Park are also worth visiting. Take an opportunity to explore the area for outdoor excitement like hiking/biking trails. While you're here, you can enjoy all the comforts of home and more, including a rainfall showerhead and a refrigerator, as well as free WiFi and an LCD TV. Other amenities include towels, slippers, an electric kettle, and a desk.

Lovely B&B on the outskirts of Hualien city
Once you figure the transport part out, everything else is great. The vicinity is quiet, green & scenic, and is great to explore on a bicycle (which the owner lends for free). Try to stay in one of the wooden huts if you can (there are also rooms within the main house). I got one of them, and it was lovely. The furniture and decor inside have been chosen by the owner, and you can feel that personal touch.
When we were there, another group had a BBQ in the large yard outside, and I could tell it was great fun. A big plus is chatting with the owner … while she can be busy getting things done around the house, if you get the chance to speak with her, she's happy to share great tips on things to do and places to eat. In fact, we ended up going to the Taroko Music Festival with her and her family! Oh, and if you like cats, they have 4 in the house … guests are also welcome to bring pets.
All-in-all, this B&B feels like one (as opposed to the other I stayed at, which was also nice, but felt more hotel-like) because of the owner's hospitality, and decor that felt personalized. I'll stay here again if I go back to Hualien.
