A lesson on bad wine and poor service

We had dinner at the hotel. To the main dish, which was chickpeas, we were recommended an Italian white wine Possessioni– Serego Alighieri,
Garganega & Sauvignon Blanc, Veneto. When I tasted it I thought it was ok in color and colour and approved it. But when we started eating, the wine didn’t taste good. Since I had approved the wine we were careful not to complain. We were greeted with zero understanding and paid full price and left. We had tried to get the waiter to check the wine, but she thought it was ok. A bad experience where you just feel stupid because you did not reveal the bad wine on the tasting. We're not coming back!

Not very relaxing

I really hate writing bad reviews, but I think this might be helpful for other guests to know before booking. Besides, I'm a stereotypical middle-aged white woman - a "Karen" if you may- so here comes my experience.
I want to start by saying that the food was great and that the room was clean. If that's all you care about, you can actually stop reading here. The reason for my low rating is not the food or the cleanliness, but the overall experience.
I am a very experienced spa visitor and know how it usually works and what to reasonably expect at this type of hotel. What I expected was above all relaxation in nice environments. Unfortunately, it was not at all the experience I had.
Already when I booked, I reacted to the fact that it was possible to add kimono and slippers for 50 SEK, even though the spa entry was not included in the stay. I found it rather misleading. If I hadn’t asked at reception myself, I would probably have assumed that the spa was included in some way in the stay, as the possibility to add kimono and slippers gave that impression.
When booking I paid the extra 50 kronor to get kimono and slippers to the room. At check-in at the reception I was informed that it was possible that they would not be in the room and that I could collect them at the reception. Quite right, they were not in the room.
During the evening I tried on three different occasions to go to the reception to collect them. Every time I joined the queue, but eventually I gave up because the waiting time was so long. The result was that I did not use the spa at all on the first day.
Another big problem was the room. My room was just out against the big fans on the roof, which hummed very loudly. I am very sound resistant and live at a very busy public transport hub, so I am used to trams, beeping noise and traffic noise. This was something else entirely.
When I finally got to talk to someone at reception, I asked if it was possible to change to another room, but it was not possible. During the night I woke up to the vibrations from the fans. Not only was there an audible hum, but the vibrations made it feel much like when a phone is silent with the vibrations on and ringing.
I also want to compare this with a similar situation I have experienced in another hotel in the same price range. There, my four fellow travellers and I were offered a voucher for a new stay, free of charge, after a renovation that caused noise disturbances was completed. No corresponding compensation was offered here. I was also not offered the opportunity to upgrade to another room to avoid the noise.
Then came the final straw on the second day. After breakfast I had about an hour to use the spa that I had actually paid for. When I came downstairs, my spa key didn't work. I went to the reception to ask why and was told that the key had to be activated every day.
This was brand new information for me. Earlier I had been informed that the key would be valid for the entire stay. If it needed to be activated every day, I can't understand why it wasn't mentioned when I asked about the spa the first time.
Once I learned this, only about 45 minutes of my opportunity to use the spa remained, and then it no longer felt meaningful. I could not use the spa during any part of my stay, even though it was a central part of what I had expected from the visit.
Finally, I would like to say something about the service. The staff was not exactly rude, but the service level was not at all what I am used to in hotels and spas in this price range. Several of my contacts with the staff felt strangely uncomfortable and lacked the natural sense of service and understanding of the guest's situation that I expect.
The person I finally got help from with the kimono and the slippers gave me my money back, which I appreciated, but it was also perceived as quite reluctant. I didn't get the feeling that the person understood why I wanted my money back or why the situation had been frustrating.
I myself am a very nice person and therefore usually also very nicely treated. It wasn't that the staff were directly unpleasant here, but rather that the reception felt consistently uncomfortable and unsafe, like "socially awkward"
In conclusion: the food was good and the room was clean, but for me it is not enough when I book a stay at a spa in this price range. I paid for a relaxing experience and instead experienced problems with spa access, missing information, a very disturbing room and a level of service that did not meet my expectations.
I'm done whining. One last suggestion for improvement: it would be good to have snacks, sweets, bubble water, soft drinks and the like for sale at reception. Now I had to walk 0.5 km to a gas station, which felt a bit meager. M v h "Karen"

Good visit with improvement areas

We four ladies on the road trip spent four nights here and on the whole we were very pleased with the atmosphere and conviviality. We had a family room, two nice beds and two very hard extra beds. Maybe with hindsight we should have taken two double rooms. Other than that, the room was okay, but got a little warm. Nice staff at reception but they didn't seem completely updated and interacted (can you drink the well water - or not?, what kind of sister hotel is in Italy?). When it comes to the breakfast buffet, we have a lot to work on for us gluten-intolerant. Could the person in charge of breakfast make sure that everything even all toppings, such as liver pate, is gluten-free at the buffet. You want to feel safe, to eat wrong can quickly ruin the holiday for us who are intolerant. It’s also remarkable that there are all sorts of goodies (danish, croissants, pancakes) for the “normal”, but only a few dry cookies for those who are gluten intolerant. And this in Söderköping where there is a gluten-free bakery a stone's throw away, which bakes Danish bread etc. How hard can it be?

Carpeted floor....Yuck!

Nice environment and good breakfast! But, why carpeting? Especially in dog rooms!? So 70's and unfresh! And, stingy, two worn-down glasses, normally you get two for bathrooms and two for drinking. We could have gotten new ones when both were used for toothbrushes...
