A great experience, to be repeated. Highly recommend!
Earlier this month, my wife and I spent two nights at the Swift House Inn in Middlebury, VT. The Inn has been impeccably restored and is elegantly decorated. Matthew Robinson is the ultimate innkeeper. He did a fantastic job bringing the Inn back to its original splendor. The Inn’s restaurant, Jessica’s, is quite an experience and by itself well worth a visit. We actually had dinner there both evenings – and are ready to come back!
The second day we went on an excursion around Middlebury accompanied by Matthew’s brother Ted. It was a fascinating journey covering the town’s history and ending with a visit to the Middlebury College Museum of Art. Middlebury students are lucky to have access to such an amazing repository of art and history. But then they are lucky just for being there…

It’s the People
Our stay at the Swift House Inn was lovely. The grounds are beautifully kept, with lovely gardens, yummy double hammock, fire table and screened porch.
As with every place you go it’s the people who make or break the experience. These people made our experience at SHI: Rachel, whose cheery voice at the other end of the phone line makes you feel like you are doing her the favour of talking to you! She is the absolutely best representative of SHI.
David and James in the dining area were always ready and willing to fulfill every request with a can-do attitude, which was thoroughly appreciated by our family. Some other staff in dining did not hold these attributes, so David and James stood out.
The mattress was a little too soft and the sheets are microfiber, but we survived. We appreciated the robes hanging in the closet as well as the iron and ironing board. Also, the coffee and tea station in the hallway is a great touch as well as the free parking lot.

The Swift House Inn was a wonderful place to celebrate my friend’s 75th Birthday! From the moment we checked in with Rachael to our check out with Cassie it was perfect. Dinner at Jessica’s was excellent and so was breakfast. The staff was amazing, everyone we came in contact with was happy to assist with anything and they were sincerely happy to be there!

We stayed in one of the rooms in the Carriage House (as opposed to the Main House). It's by the road but wasn't too loud. The grounds are impeccably kept, with beautiful flowers and veggies growing everywhere. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast (shout-out to Linus for being the most friendly and welcoming server!). Beautiful porch spaces for eating and relaxing, including a great screened in porch off the back of the Main House where we enjoyed the sunset. The room was not huge but the bathroom was nice. The decor is funky and more on the modern end, so if you're looking for a traditional Victorian vibe, this isn't it.
We enjoyed learning about the history of the home and the area, and catching a glimpse of Griswald, the Official Inn Cat.

Great property that was former VT governors home. Very good food/restaurant. Gym and Suana pretty marginal. Pretty short walk to charming downtown area.
