Best area in NC for hiking, tubing and being close to nature. Debbie and Van are fantastic.

This is our 3rd year and we will be back next year. We love the quietness and the beautiful views but also enjoy that wherever we want to go is within a 1 hr drive. The cabin was spotless , the kitchen well equipped and very comfortable . Debbie and Van could not be more accommodating or nicer. The cabin has a new TV, washer/dryer, alarm system , AC, Keurig which we needed instructions on how to use. When we called various times for help,Van was there within 10 mins to help . Van even lit a huge bonfire for my granddaughters which was a big success as was the camp fire where we made s’mores. Can’t wait for next summer to go back.

Nice location but run down

I hate to be so negative, but you should know what you are getting! When I arrived, the place just looked run down. There is a sign saying they are open, but the door is locked. I rang the doorbell, but no response. I called the number on the door, which was answered by a nice lady. The door to #8 is open, and the key is in the room. The room was clean enough, but very dated. It was nice to have a kitchenette, but no cook wear or dishes. Out on the deck, there is a great view of the Black Mountains, but the deck is very worn, and paint is peeling. The only restaurant in the area would not let me in (in a gruff manner) because of a special event. This is a nice location, and the lodge has a lot going for it. Just don't expect too much.

I hate to leave this review.

The hotel needs updating terribly. My sheets had stains so I brought in my sleeping bag to sleep on. It could be adorable. Some paint on outside furniture , nice bedding, wood floors , new refrigerator without stains, and cleaning up the outside would do wonders. I mean clean up the OUTSIDE. I really do not want to say this because the owner seemed nice but I would drive on to Little Switzerland no matter how tired you are.

Close to BRP and Mt. Mitchell

This motel is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and just south of Mt. Mitchell the highest mountain east of the Mississippi. I was solo on my motorcycle and the price was $99 for a Saturday night, so it was a bargain, and in a good place since my destination was Mt. Mitchell. So, this is an old motor lodge, still has a gravel driveway and parking lot. Bottom line, needs some TLC and it could be a hidden gem. Right now, it is just cheap and accessible to the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have your own food and drinks, the room had a full kitchenette, with a small table too. Owners are nice folks too by the way. Place is just really old and dated, but reasonably clean and comfortable.
There is a golf course next to this hotel, and a restaurant. J &J Grill listed as this page pops up on TA is long gone. If you are game to run up a few miles to Mt. Mitchell and see the highest point, stop in at the new restaurant open there called Mt. Mitchell Cafe & Eatery and enjoy a meal there. Open 10:30 - 7:00 daily. I did and enjoyed a good meal and great view.

Very cute little place

We stayed 2 nights. Very, very cute place, creek running in front. View of the mountains, clean. Owners VERY nice, accommodating for our dog. ONLY thing is we never had hot water and the air conditioner filter needed to be changed along time ago.
