One spectacular place, far from all inhabitants!!

Nilanthi the host is an amazing lady, very customer centric and immediately makes you feel like home, the amazing dinner and breakfast she cooks, and that instantaneous smile she has on her face makes you stay here forever, I recommend this place to all visitors in Ella, this is a Place like no other!

Disappointed disgusting dangerous and totally unacceptable. The only thing I can say positive about the property is the gentleman who works there he made some lovely breakfasts and always did his best. The owners whom I met were made aware of the rats occupying the first two rooms I was shown rat feces and urine on the beds and throughout the rooms. The owners had no interest or intention of spending any time or money on the property they were more concerned about the new buildings being built on the land. The most irresponsible business owners I have met they had to be reminded on several occasions to pay their internet bill so wi fi was available which was 20% of the time the location is remote and treacherous to drive or walk. I will be contacting hotels. Com this property and anything the owners own in the future should not be listed on their site. The owners should be ashamed at how they neglect their property.

Great host and lovely family

Sampath is a fantastic host and also has a great van which we used around Sri Lanka we used him for 5 people but he could more 8 comfortably more with a squeeze or big European. If your are in this budget you'll love it but if your expecting more for a low budget, pay more money. The views are to die for.
Fantastic stay.

Very much worth the tuk tuk troubles!

The panoramic windows in rooms 1 & 2 are amazing. The windows point pretty much East and so, if you leave the curtains open, you’re woken at 6am with a glorious sunrise. The private balcony also boasts the same incredible views and provides an amazing backdrop both at breakfast time and whenever you just want to chill and absorb the natural environment. You really feel remote and part of the landscape.
However, there is an issue with the tuk tuk rides up from Ella. The driver of our first trip up from the train station seemed reluctant and said the route was steep. As we turned off the winding main road (usefully signposted Hill Forest Cottage) he was right. It was so steep that with 2 bags and 2 normal size passengers he couldn’t make it. I therefore had to get out and push. Twice. During our visit we had 3 tuk tuks refuse to attempt the steep climb (so we had to walk from the main road - only five minutes) and 2 that made it, only with me having to get out and walk two small steep 30m sections. A slight warning: if you struggle with walking this accommodation is probably not for you.
On our visit the lady owner wasn’t around for our first two days. She returned on our last day and we jumped at the chance of dinner on the balcony. Her food was fabulous and plentiful. The fish curry and pumpkin curry particularly stood out. Breakfast had good Sri Lankan influence in the form of string hoppers, potato curry and local ‘honey’ pancakes.
Other positives included a spacious room, a hot shower and a comfy king sized bed. Some of the decor was a bit quirky and brought a smile to our faces.
A suggested improvement would be to add a wardrobe and chest of drawers to hang and store your clothes.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and it represents strong value for money. The family provided great hospitality and we would recommend Hill Forest Cottage.

Not a cottage

This place is far from the town so the cars cannot climb to the cottage and clients had to walk atleast 30 mins.
Food is not ok and cleanliness wise also.
If there is no electricity then no hot water.
