Shangri-Love This Hotel!
This was our first time staying at a Shangri-la hotel and upon our arrival we were informed by Frances that this is their original flagship location. She welcomed us and informed us of the amenities and facilities of the property. They are celebrating their 55 anniversary, and I am celebrating my first time in Singapore along with my wife's return here after 15 years. We stayed here for 2 nights.
The hotel exudes luxury and a classic elegance that is peaceful and inviting. You are greeted by the Shangri-la scent which has notes of ginger and bergamot that fills the spacious hotel lobby. There are beautiful sculptures, foliage, and flowers that adorn the decor and add to the design of the property.
We stayed in a Garden Wing Deluxe King with a city view. The room was a spacious, clean, and comfortable home for our brief stay. At my request we arrived to an extra pillow and a note that I had written for my wife. In addition, the hotel provided fresh fruit and a welcome note along with special chocolate from Janice Wong. I appreciate that they executed on my requests and enhanced our first impressions with their own touches that made us feel welcomed and special. One of our colleagues remarked facetiously, "well I didn't get chocolate in my room" (more on that later).
The facilities are nice, including the fitness center and the outdoor pool. I am always a fan of fitness centers with high ceilings because I like to jump rope, when possible. Even though I didn't use the pool of the hotel, I like that the hotel looks like it can attract and appeal to a wide variety of travelers and guest types. There was even a hot tub and sauna in their fitness area. Many hotels have some, but not all.
My wife and I both enjoyed the variety of dining options starting with The Line where we had international breakfast buffet. We also had snacks and dinner with a colleague at the Waterfall Ristorante Italiano. My mushroom ravioli (can't remember the name was delicious). Finally, I have to mention Shop house where I had my eye on a salted chocolate chip cookie. While there, Executive Chef Gregory and a colleague observed my cookie conundrum. To make a long story short, I purchased the chocolate chip cookie and some additional products, while Chef Gregory purchased a second raspberry/lemon lava cake cookie for us. It was truly a sweet gesture and I can almost justify the 17 hr flight to return for another cookie, or both.
I want to share a special thanks to Tatiana for giving me a tour of the hotel. She sold me on the different elements of the property that most guests do not get to see (based on my industry). Our tour and conversation really left me impressed with an already lovely property. She was one of the many people that make a Shangri-la hotel (see opening definition) special. Keep in mind this was our first time staying at a Shangri-la. It set a great precedent for what we expect for future stays at the brand.
I would like also like to thank Gracia for being pleasant in each encounter. Everyone was helpful in anticipation of any of our needs, but she along with Frances were the stars for any time I stood in the lobby. Gracia helped us arrange a gift to be delivered to one of our colleagues that was also staying at the hotel. We left her with a bracelet and a note for our friend, and she was helpful in ensuring that it was delivered, and this time the gift was delivered to our colleague with a chocolate cake (she got chocolate in her room ).
Thank you for being our first home in Singapore. We look forward to returning and feel comfortable recommending it. Our experience at Shangri-la Singapore was real.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a thoughtful and detailed review. We are truly delighted to know that your first stay with Shangri-La was a memorable one.
It is heartening to hear that you enjoyed the elegance of our property, the comfort of your Garden Wing room, and the many facilities and dining experiences available. We are especially pleased that the small touches, from your personalised in-room arrangements to the sweet moments at our outlets, helped make your stay feel both special and welcoming.
Your kind recognition of our colleagues means a great deal to us, and the team will be thrilled to know they made such a positive impression. We will also be sure to share your appreciation with the colleagues involved in arranging your thoughtful surprises and experiences throughout your stay.

Luxury hotel with room for improvement
Alas to our dismay, we found our experience to be lackluster. Not terrible, but nothing that warrants another visit. The exception would be the following people who stood apart from the rest and I would like to commend their hospitality and stellar service.
The good: Chef de Cuisine, Vincent Wong, is the redeeming factor of our stay.
He goes above and beyond his duties as chef, helping guests with clearing plates sometimes, bringing food to our table, and folding napkins that dropped on the floor. He took the time to converse with us and he was the only one who remembered that we’ve been coming back every year since 2021, even though some lounge personnel from the past were still on staff, which speaks volumes about the kind of flippant service provided in the lounge. I think if it weren’t for him, I would rate this place even lower. Creative and aesthetically presented food that blends eastern and western influence. At the lounge, Jerry from the evening service team was exceptional. He had initiative when he saw us inspecting the bar section. He was always prompt in clearing plates and was always on his toes to serve. Paul was also very cheery and greeted us too. Additionally, the spa has consistently been a great place with friendly staff and therapists, although they did raise the price slightly and I was unable to redeem points for my dad who paid for this spa trip because the reservation is under my name and staff didn’t offer a solution so I can earn some points for this visit which did not have a discount for in-house guests :
I hesitate to give this review because for the past five years, the service has been stellar and the previous staff were all excellent, but it just feels like this hotel is now lacking personable hospitality. We were hoping for some peace and quiet and thus chose to pay the premium for the lounge, but alas nothing about this club lounge was exclusive. Overcrowded, noisy and not conducive to do any kind of quiet work on the computer or read a book because it was just SO NOISY. There were some moments that were nice, but otherwise the experience so far is…meh. No drinks were offered when we checked in at the lounge and also at breakfast, which was the S.O.P ever since we had our annual staycations in Shangri-La. I understand that for breakfast it does get busy and thus no drinks were offered, but what’s the point of a lounge if it’s so crowded?
The establishment currently resembles a chaotic cafe due to a specific clientele. These individuals behave loudly and presumptuously, seemingly under the impression that they are entitled to special privileges because the Shangri-La is owned by their compatriots.
As a result, we experienced poor service in the lounge, which was largely ignored by the team except for the previously mentioned staff member. Additionally, the reception desk provided an uninspired welcome, specifically the employee dressed in a black pantsuit.
The service structure occasionally feels hierarchical, giving the impression that guests are treated differently based on appearance. While my expectations are reasonable, the current approach falls short of five-star standards. Several staff members appeared unengaged, offering a basic greeting and nothing further.
Turndown service didn’t have a chocolate or a bookmark as was done in the past, which would have been a nice touch. We are also placed in a room at a low floor again. This time last year we were housed in a similar room where we can see the road below easily. Lounge was swamped by a particular group of people who have come en masse to this hotel and what irked us a little was the fact that the corner space in the lounge overlooking the condominiums at the back was also not made available. The lady at the front desk of the lounge just made a poor excuse of how “it’s not available on weekdays and it’s only available only for meetings” when we literally saw a group of families congregating in that space this past Monday. Unless I missed a memo, Monday isn’t a weekend. Not a big matter really, but we just wanted a change of scenery. These small details may seem minuscule, but when one stays in a five star hotel, a higher standard of hospitality and service is naturally demanded. Details like that make a whole world of a difference between just any other hotel, or a hotel that has a loyal customer base who associate unforgettable poignant memories at the establishment. Also, kids were occasionally allowed in the lounge even on weekdays? So that rule about no children on weekdays was a friendly suggestion?
Disappointed and so disheartened that this was our experience on such a special occasion for us. I’m only back home in Singapore for the summer and so any time spent here is precious. For it to be spent so fruitlessly in this hotel, such a shame…Looks like they’ve lost that special touch for personable hospitality. It was better the past few years, but the old guard might have left which explains the slipshod service. It may sound like we’re demanding so much, but when you’ve encountered exceptionally brilliant service in the past which has now diminished to this kind of service that at times is devoid of any heart, the contrast can be very stark. This experience proved to us that what matters is how much income you bring to the hotel at that moment in time, rather than loyal patronage. Perhaps it’s time for a change of scenery for our annual summer staycations next time?

A Wonderful Family Stay
* Comfortable room — compact, but thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed.
* VERY kids-friendly. The highlight was Splash, one of the best outdoor kids’ pools we’ve experienced, with plenty of play areas and slides.
* The indoor playground is also great. It’s paid, but definitely worth it, especially if you’re travelling with young kids.
Room for improvement
* We stayed over the weekend, and the breakfast queue could be managed a little better. We ended up waiting around 20 minutes.
Other than that, the rest of our stay was splendid. We had a wonderful time as a family and will definitely be back to treat the kids.

Great family stay
Staff were amazing and caring our children were always treated with the same respect as us and the options for the children were fantastic the splash buds and the beautitul kept grounds our youngest kept disappearing to the koi ponds and the turtles she loved it.
Restaurant the line was busy at times the dedicated kids little restaurant was fantastic.
High tea and canapés were presented each day with such great standard and allowing a gluten free option for our eldest nothing wasn't much to ask.
Rooms we had interconnected and wow so big and rooms cleaned daily and turn down service.
Restaurant we ate at a few and pool service very nice.
Staff from the check-in to the day we left superb I would love to mention all the staff you were exceptional. Anyone looking for a great place this is it.
Thank you.
