Coffee time at Strmol Castle

We were there with our book club since a friend of mine said that this experience is definitely worth a visit. And I can not agree more, this experience exceeded my expectations. From great tour guide Sasa who explained about the history of the castle in such a charming way that you could listen to her for hours, to great interior, lots of details (including e.g. crystal glasses in which sparkling wine is served, porcelain, napkins etc.) and nevertheless great and elegant service by a charming waiter who made sure that we really felt welcomed. Would definitely recommend the experience!

Stunning

A hidden gem that is just minutes away from the airport. A lovely warm welcome, where we got to walk around the castle and see the beauty inside. The rooms are spacious, clean and warm. The hotel and rooms are beautifully decorated.

We stayed in a castle!!!!

Staying in a castle was on my bucket list, so when I found Grad Strmol, I could not resist.
When we arrived, Karin, the hostess, gave us a tour of the castle and told us about its history. Grad Strmol was originally built in the 1700s, and it was last owned by Rado and Ksenija Hribar, who purchased it in 1936. The Hribars furnished the castle lavishly and you can still see many of their furniture pieces in the castle. The Hribars lived a lavish lifestyle with hunting expeditions, travel, golf, etc. They were also very generous in their support of the local economy. Tragically, they were taken from their home in the night during January 1944 and killed by local partisans.
We stayed in a double room, which had replicas of furniture that would have been in the castle when it was owned by the Hribars. The bed was very comfortable, although we were surprised to find that there was a gap of about six inches between the two twin beds when they had been pushed together to make a king-size bed at our request. No problem--we simply rolled an extra blanket and filled the space with that.
Breakfast included various breads, croissants, yogurts, meats and cheeses and we were asked if we wanted eggs. It was served at a large, beautiful wooden table in the study.
The grounds has several hiking trails and is beautifully maintained.
If you have ever wanted to stay in a castle, then you should definitely check out Grad Strmol! You will not be disappointed!

Small castle, bigger park and sweet shop

You can drive to a village Cerklje near the Brnik airport or near the Krvavec skiing area. In the middle of the village you turn to the west and you will soon see the castle grounds. Medieval small castle was rebuilt to a nice manor house. It was used for politicians after the Second world war. Now, it is open for special guided tours. All visitors are satisfied after walking from room to room, with preserved furniture, paintings and after all the information about Hribar spouses and their destiny. It is possible to rent a whole house with all rooms. You can walk around the park. An old outbuilding was redesigned to a sweetshop with fresh cakes, some drinks and nice service. It is possible to park your car near the entrance of the side building and your children may use the playground.

Kavarna Strmol

Fine coffe and home made by Grad Brdo. I try nuss ice cream and mango taste. No other ice cream has taste like this. It is a pure pleasure....beautiful view on Grad Strmol and nice place for walking near forest. Safe for kids
