Excellent Hotel and Restaurant in Trenčín

Hotel Elizabeth is definitely one of the best places to stay in Trenčín. Beautiful historic hotel in a fantastic location directly below Trenčín Castle, with a great atmosphere and elegant interior.
Everything was top quality – comfortable accommodation, professional service and an excellent restaurant. The food was outstanding and made our stay even more enjoyable.
A great combination of history, comfort and excellent gastronomy. Highly recommended.

Five stars for a classically elegant hotel in the 2026 European Capital of Culture

Hotel Elizabeth - of course named after Empress Sisi of the Austro-Hungarian Empire - is a beautiful building that sits right at the edge of Trencin Old Town. It's actually built beside the foundation rock of Trencin Castle - and one of the main attractions of the Trencin are the Roman inscriptions left behind by Roman soldiers who were garrisoned here - and you can only view these from the terrace level of Hotel Elizabeth! Despite the 19th century facade, inside is a very modern central lobby with an all-glass elevator system.
The room we were given was a junior suite, with high ceilings and a beautiful living area with four one-seater sofas and a coffee table in between. Entering the room, you first entered a foyer with its own sofa, clothes closet, wall painting, and powder room, then a door that led to the living area. The living area had beautiful curved windows. a long work desk with cabinets at both ends. A partial wall separated the living room from the bedroom. Both rooms had their own large-screen TV sets. The full T&B was in the bedroom area. Everything in the suite looked modern, especially the electric sockets and light switches. Each area had wooden floors topped by a light-brown carpet with a swirling pattern. There were several mirrors and paintings on the walls, all framed in silver (or silver like). Even the T&B mirror, with lights all around, was silver framed. Drop ceilings had recessed lights and the bedroom had its own ceiling-mounted ac, which was impressive.
The T&B and powder room had, of course, chrome fixtures, in keeping with the design theme. Light switches and sockets were all very modern.
Breakfast was at the Sisi, also their fine dining place for lunches and dinners. It's an elegant place so on ambience alone, breakfast was a treat. But the food was very varied. They even had a special tray of kitchen specialties, like a tuna concoction and small open faced special sandwiches. As with most hotels we had been to in Central Europe on this vacation, nearly everything was self-serve.
If we were to nitpick, there were a few quibbles - the nightstand lights were directly on top of the head location so you tended to hit it when getting up; the outlets were on the bed itself, which made it cumbersome since wires were in the way of the pillows; the bedroom Philips TV would lose its picture after about 10 minutes; the low flush in the T&B wasn't working. But these are very minor points compared to the overall wonderful guest experience. This is a fantastic hotel - and deserves its five stars!

Disappointing stay – Weak service for a 4-star hotel

Reception & Spa Policy:
Upon my arrival, the reception was still professional. Then came a disappointment: My colleague and I were informed that an additional 20 euros per person would be charged for a 2-hour use of the swimming pool/spa area. This was not apparent in my booking documents, nor in the fine print. When inquiring with HRS, they also expressed surprise at this practice. I travel for business in many European countries and also visit spa hotels, but I have never experienced such an extra charge. Even upon inquiry that we only wanted to use the swimming pool, the hotel staff reacted negatively. They simply wanted to collect this additional fee.
Room service:
The service to the guest also disappointed me. On the third day, during the towel change, the large towel and the foot towel were no longer provided after the change. I informed the reception about the missing towels before dinner. An apology was not offered; instead, I was handed a towel directly at the counter. From a hotel with 4 stars, I would have expected that the missing towels would be brought to my room in full.
Breakfast:
In my opinion, the breakfast selection was very limited. Additionally, canapés, cold cuts, and cheese were presented at room temperature, which I found not optimal regarding freshness.
Conclusion:
Due to these service and performance deficiencies, I unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel.

well done

didn't stay in hotel, were told the hotel has parking spaces, easy access to old town, frontdesk very friendly, helped to manage getting out of parking space, you go in, computer has your licence plate number, going out you go to the exit, stop, a computer voice tells you how much you pay, by card only, and off you go. guess €1.50/hour, old part of city minutes away, worth parking there.
