Great location

Great location - a base for most of the most important trails of the Slovak Paradise. The house is well equipped. There was never a shortage of hot water. In the immediate vicinity you can do basic shopping and eat a meal in one of several restaurants. There is also a tennis court and bicycle rental on site.

A calm and pretty place at Paradise Gates

The place is quiet and you have the choice to put your tent, but I came in September, maybe it is less heavenly in July-August, because with only two showers for all the camping, it must be jostling. At the reception, the young man informed me very well on the various hikes to do in the Park. There is WiFi throughout the campsite, but if you want broadband you can come to the office where there are tables and work quietly.
Don't hesitate to go up the gorges where you walk in the water and where you climb the ladder is great!

Big campsite with everything you need

Bit more expensive than campsites in the high tatras but compared to western europe still cheap. Tidy, fenced campsite with huts and large wellkept grassareas. We stayed in a tent which we were told to set up anywhere we wanted. Shadowspots are a bit rare but stick to the forrestline and you’ll be good. There are several taps for drinkable water around the site. Bathrooms are clean and there was always paper but never soap. Other guests didnt adhere to the non-bonfire-rule in the evening which we smelled inside our tent. There is a washing machine that you can use for 1€ but it is popular. They’ll charge your devices for free in the reception. Restaurants around are simple but ok. A lot of trails to the “slovak paradise” start right outside the campsite. Make sure to spend at least a day on the trails!

Avoid this place if possible

This is my first time here in Camping Podlesok. And i can only give 1 star for good place to start hiking routes and a place for tent (grass zone)... But guys, c'mon - its 2018 and when you pay really high price for campsite (2 adults, a tent and a car) and then need to additionally prepay 0,50 eur for shower (3 damn minutes of hot water after the whole day trekking) and additionally 0,50 eur for kitchen owen? Seriously?
I've been in lots of campings around Europe... For such price you get campsite, shower (free unlimited time) kitchen facility with gas owen and even (in some places) shared refrigerator.
And here you need to pay for "Induction" type plate for cooking? Who brings induction compatible kitchen set when going for camping?
Checkout at 10am.? For the price you pay? For that price at least you should get checkout at 12...
I do not recommend that site..Better to drive from further camping which offers facilities that are already included in the price (as it shoud be).
Much better choice would be to stay at Turisticky Raj (400 meters on the left from the entrance street. There you get small 4 bed house with 220V electricity and all included (free kitchen on the main building, free showers, free leisure room in the main building etc.) for lower price than in Podlesok Camping.

Avoid Cottages At All Costs

First of all let me start with the positives. The campsite is ideally situated for accessing walks in the National Park of Slovenský raj, and is in an attractive location. You can also reach the High Tatras within 30 to 40 minutes drive. Just outside the campsite itself there are several very reasonable restaurants in which to eat.
Now for the negatives. We had booked 7 nights in one of their cottages (the older Cottage Javorina). We weren't expecting much, but was expecting it to be clean and well looked after. When we arrived at the cottage (having driven overnight from Calais), we were horrified at the state of the cottage. The shower basin was filthy, the shower itself was hanging off the wall and didn't work, there were broken tiles in the bathroom, the radiator was covered in rust, the place smelt, the flooring was damaged, and in the upstairs room there was swear words written over the walls. In addition there was no cooking facilities in the cottage at all. We have stayed in similar places before, and they have always had some basic cooking facilities. You could argue that on their website they don't mention cooking facilities in the cottage, but it is not at all clear. Our friends also hired one of these cottages and they too came expecting to find cooking facilities.
The place was so dreadful, that there was no way we were prepared to spend a night there, let alone seven. When we went to complain in the reception, the young women said to us "They are very old, I wouldn't want to stay in them." Why in that case are they still letting them out? We also got very upset when they implied that the problem was with US, and not the cottage. We were told we were the first people to complain about the state of the cottages, which if true I find amazing.
In fairness to the campsite, they refunded our money straight away, but we then had to drive to Poprad in order to buy tents for the week, and a camping stove - we'd left this equipment in England, thinking that we wouldn't need it.
In our friends cottage, many of the electric sockets weren't working, and were hanging lose, and they had a mouse running around the cottage, but unlike us they didn't complain. The junction box outside their cottage was also extremely noisy, and I personally wondered how safe the electrics in the whole building were.
I understand the cottages are old, but that does not excuse the terrible state that they are in. If I was the owner of this campsite, I would tear them down.
On the site they do rent more modern cottages (Cottage Javorina COMFORT), which in stark contrast to the one we'd hired looked really lovely, and were fully equipped.
As for the campsite itself, there are two wash blocks. They were cleaned regularly, but in the wash block nearest to us, there was only one sink in which to wash your hands or do your teeth. This sink was right next to the urinals, so when you brushed your teeth you often got the very strong smell of urine, which wasn't nice. There were about four toilets in this block, only two had locks that worked, and one of the toilet seats was badly cracked, and in the time we were there wasn't replaced. The showers themselves were okay, they are operated by tokens (50 cent token for 3 minutes - which was more than adequate). The spray wasn't great, it was more like standing under a tap, but was okay.
On the site there is also a small kitchen area with only two sinks in which to do your washing. Some people clearly weren't aware of the existence of this kitchen, and I saw one man trying to washing his dishes in the sink in the wash block. There is also a washing machine on site, which we made good use of. Again it costs 50 cent for one hour. The machine itself, was a rather small commercial washing machine that you might have at home.
Regarding access to the site, there wasn't any limit as to what time people to enter or leave the site. Most campsite prevent cars from coming on site after 10pm and before 7am, but people were able to come & go at whatever time they wanted. People also drove quite quickly around the site, which with young children around could be quite dangerous.
For the facilities available, I felt that it wasn't a particularly cheap site, and I wouldn't rush back there, although the area it is located in is really beautiful and well worth exploring.
(The pictures are of the cottage we hired)
