An idyllic place to stay

I had the most wonderful time at La Locanda. I was in Rwanda for work - my first time in Rwanda. And LaLocanda was perfect. Right near where I had a meeting for a week. In a wonderfully quiet and beautiful setting. The dining area / common space in particular was idyllic.
I had breakfast and dinner there every day for 8 days and it was always really good, simple food, peaceful and beautiful. Lots of interesting birds in their gardens too.
The staff was excellent - my rooms were also very nice (I switched rooms midway because I was originally scheduled to move to different place after a few days but I liked LaLocanda so much o asked if o could stay and there was a different room available so I moved to that one.
And I met a few guests each day and had wonderful chats with them in the common area. I plan to come back in a few months and will be staying here again.

Charming Hotel, but overpriced

The location of the hotel is convenient to art galleries and cafés. From the hotel to the entrance of the volcano national park is about 25 minutes drive . The hotel is very charming, very clean and the staff are fantastic. The food was great, breakfast and dinner were included. This is not a luxury hotel, and it’s slightly overpriced.

Good stop over hotel

We had a very nice stop over here on our way to Uganda to see the mountain gorillas. Our room was comfortable, spacious with rooms for two chairs anda table, clean bathroom with plenty of hot water. The meals were very good and the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Base for volcano trekking

Room was cozy and quiet - great bathroom and hot shower
Dinner and breakfast was delicious and homemade
All drinks/food included in the price
Great base for trekking
Wonderful art studio on site as well
The little sauna is great after a hike

Overpriced, no sound proofing but comfortable bed

Sitting by the fireplace on a cold Musanze evening and being plied with wine is a wonderful thing. Good wine is difficult to come by in Rwanda, or exceptionally expensive, so being able to sip all-inclusive wine all evening is a real treat. The sitting area is cosy and comfy. But I’m afraid that’s where my positive feedback ends. The rooms are nice but we had no lights in the bathroom, just open wires sticking out of the walls. The bed was comfortable but the walls so thin, it sounded like the people in the room next to us were right next to us. We could hear even whispers and light snoring. The outside seating area is nice but nothing about this experience was worth the amount we paid. I visited La Locanda before and it was half the price, which felt more appropriate with the standard of accommodation. No improvements have been made to justify the doubling of costs, as far as I can see. I don’t know if we were unlucky but the food was very basic and lacking flavour. Our desert was half a banana on a side plate with a segment of apple. The spa could be nice but there were works going on so we couldn’t use. All in all, a perfectly fine experience but worth half the price you pay, no more.
