Very nice hotel residence
A very nice and welcoming hotel residence. The rooms are decorated soberly but with taste and the spaces are impeccable. The friendly staff, the superb view of Funchal (including from room 205), the bar open from 8am to 8pm that allows you to have lunch, eat or drink on the terrace, the tranquility of the place... everything was perfect!
I didn’t enjoy the pool but it made me want to! I really want to highlight the environment which is very beautiful, the cleanliness of the place and the friendly staff. The photos and descriptions of the site are completely in line with reality. A very nice residence!

Would not recommend.
The view is great and no big road close by, that’s the positives.
On the negative side;
Walls are paperthin, you can hear everything from other rooms and outside. It feels like you’re part of the conversations and what not.
No A/C in the room, meaning that the room is cold during winter and probably hot during summer. Luckily there’s a warm blanket in the closet.
Bed is rock hard and the shower has very low water pressure if you want warm water. More so, when other rooms turn on the water or apply the build-in hairdryer in the bathroom, you will hear that quite vividly too. Especially the latter.
The hotel is located on the steepest part of town, beware of that for the walks back and forth to downtown Funchal. And cleaning costs extra (€20), unless you like me, stayed there for a longer period. A complimentary cleaning is offered then.
For a short stay during summer, it could be fine staying here. For a (longer) stay during winter, it could be fine if you enjoy the cold on top of all the noises. A great view from the balcony, if you’re that lucky, does not justify the structural downsides of the building and what not. I opted to stay away from the room as much as possible and would not recommend booking a room at this accommodation. 2 stars is quite flattering tbh.

Great service. Great prices. Friendly place.
We found this place on our walk back down to the promenade after having a ride on the baskets.
The walk down is longer than you think as it's so steep! So, this was heaven!
We sat and had a couple of beers, a cold iced lolly and a coffee. This was the cheapest cafe bar we had visited. It was around £7 total.
The staff were friendly and the garden area was lovely to sit it.
If it wasn't on such a steep hill, we would have walked back up and gone again.
There is a bus stop 2 minutes away, so you just need to see what bus it is and it would be easy.
Lovely place, definitely worth a visit.

Very basic hotel.
Affordable hotel. It's not expensive, but it's very very basic.
The room is spacious and with terrace, good views, 20 min walk from the center (with lots of slope, not suitable for people with reduced mobility, chairs or elderly people) pool and a snack bar, where you can buy the basics (sandwiches, water, coffee, soft drinks, beer, etc... at average price). Free parking inside (space for 4 cars, cannot be reserved, whoever arrives keeps it).
The rooms DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING, during the day the room gets warm, we sleep with the window open (indispensable for cooling and sleeping) and I woke up with 20 mosquito pecks, they leave insecticide inside the closet.
They also do not clean the room throughout the room, except for extra payment (€20), or change of towels. Not cleaning the room is not very normal, but they do not even leave a broom or a mop in the room to sweep (sand, mosquitoes killed on the ground after the use of the insecticide, etc...).

Many thanks for your review - please note that the property as advertised is NOT a hotel and does not provide daily cleaning services unless you select to have this done as a option which you clearly did not make use of but wish to criticise. We offer comfortable and clean accommodation with quality bedding and towels as well as a snack bar and pool and free off street parking and a panoramic view over the city at an affordable price - it is a mere 15 minute walk or 700m to the centre of town and a 5€ cab ride back up the hill - to have a view you have to be well positioned and we have a great view !

Perfect pit stop
Perfect pit stop on the way down from Montes, might even be worth the walk back up, maybe we will see….! Only drank the beer which was Super Buck, not the Madeiran Coral, crisp, refreshing. Great location, good views, quaint indoors, everything new and fresh.
