There's No Place Like Idonea! And there's honestly no one quite like Pete Luckett...hospitality, food and wine wizard.
There are not enough superlatives to describes our time with hotelier and culinary expert Pete Luckett at his magical destination property in Ponta Garca, San Miguel Island, The Azores. Central, meticulously-designed boutique property overlooking the Atlantic, with unbelievable dining and attention to detail, Idonea will never leave our hearts!

Paradise on the Azores
The moment my wife and I stepped into the property of Idonea and were warmly greeted by the Canadian owner Pete, our Azores holiday completely changed. From the rudimentary outside world with its narrow streets and sometimes chaotic traffic, we entered paradise with spectacular views over a wonderful, lush and meticulously kept tropical garden which stretched all the way to the ocean. Our room was situated next to a beautifully designed swimming pool which seemingly flowed into the ocean. The room was equipped with a very comfortable bed and many amenities that gave our stay a luxury feeling such as bathrobes.
Pete and his staff bent over backwards to make our stay exceptional without being servile. On the contrary, Pete is a very funny guy, and every attention or advice is always presented with a joke. He and Elisabete were always available to provide information, to make a restaurant booking or to prepare a sandwich, when we were hungry, but didn’t want to go out.
One of the highlights of our stay were the six course delicious dinners three times a week, cooked by an amazing chef and accompanied by outstanding Portuguese wines. In addition, the daily breakfasts were a feast, particularly the large bowls with fresh fruit.
Having traveled the world over, Idonea is one of the most fabulous places where I have ever stayed.

Idyllic Idônea!!
Idyllic Idônea!
What a fabulous property to have the pleasure of staying in! Meticulously designed suites and apartments, overlooking a large outdoor infinity pool surrounded by carefully tended floral gardens that drop down into a fruit and vegetable garden extending to the ocean view below.
Idônea is sublime in every way, but its pièce de résistance has to be its owner Pete, who along with his sidekick , Boo-ee (his dog) who is clearly really in charge! makes this place incredibly special, welcoming and very hard to leave!
Pete Luckett who is British-Canadian and an accomplished culinary fruit and vegetable expert is now a Ponta Garça local! He created delicious breakfasts for us on the terrace from his garden each morning. We were also lucky enough to partake in one of Idônea’s summer ‘Farm to Table’ en famille style dinners, which along with other guests, we enjoyed welcome drinks, a guided tour of the garden then a 6 course dinner experience around the table. Our wines were knowledgeably chosen by Pete who founded Luckett Vineyards and Wineries in Nova Scotia, and has a large collection of wines here in São Miguel. Our evening was exceptional- with great food (prepared by a lovely young local Azorean chef who I’m sure will go far!), fab wine and wonderful company. The chance to meet and chat with fellow guests/diners and Pete really showcases another huge plus for Idônea! It is about people and communicating. Let me not forget a key person who probably was the one who made me want to come here - Elisabete! who is the manager and main communicator with guests prior to their stay. She was so warm, friendly and helpful right from my first contact that by the time we met at Idônea, I felt as if I had always known her. The perfect manager and a lovely person!!
As you may be able to tell - our stay was amazing. Our kitchen facilities in our studio apartment also allowed us to enjoy some of the fresh produce that Pete picked for us from his vegetable patch.

Amazing ambiance and views with an outstanding host
This is a truly special place. The ambiance and views from the property are great - but what really makes it an extraordinary experience is the host and the attention to detail.
