Becarefull, nasty management
I booked a room and cancelled it 60days before the check-in date. The crenelation was supposed to be free and the hotel charged 50% of the total cost. After that I got my money refunded but was the travel agency who solved the problem, not Residencia Machado that took my money for months and give not answer at all when required.

Very average, book elsewhere.
I booked here based on the reasonable cost and the high 8.8 score via Booking.
This score is a head scratcher, let me explain.
We were greeted by a man who appeared after we pressed some buttons for a few minutes on the property entrance.
Between us we spoke, English, Spanish French and Catalan. The proprietor spoke only Portuguese. Absolutely zero English, Spanish..... etc
We faffed around for 10 minutes, paying and gaining a receipt. We faffed around for a further 10 minutes asking questions about local amenities, a map....anything alas no avail.
The bedroom were HOT and mosquito ridden. There was a small fan in the corner of the room for air-conditioning. Just 2 nights I said to myself.
We knew the bathroom MIGHT be shared, we didn't know that was between 4 bedrooms or 8 people minimum. It felt more like 12 people given the fact that we were queing for the toilet at midnight. Eugh.
Apparently there was Internet via wifi. Our friend who greeted us on our arrival failed to let us know this. Indeed he failed to mention this when we bumped into him again. We therefore relied on scrabbling around at the constantly unnamed reception desk for wifi details, which we eventually found.
The plus on this experience is that everything was clean, as you'd expect and that our misery only last two days. Lovely island Faial, terrible hotel. Waste of money.

Prima kamer. Vervelend management
Hotel en kamer zijn dik in orde. Kamer is redelijk ruim, redelijk schoon en ligt redelijk centraal gelegen. Eigenaar spreekt geen woord Engels wat communiceren erg lastig maakt. Schoonmakers hebben met schoonmaken de oplader van mijn telefoon vernield, per ongeluk. Helaas wilde de eigenaar niets tegemoet komen. Ik had mijn telefoon maar niet moeten opladen als de schoonmakers langskomen...

Errore o Truffa?
Ho prenotato con largo anticipo (4 mesi) la struttura con opzione cancellabile su noto sito di prenotazioni (booking)
Tre mesi prima del soggiorno ampiamente dentro i termini di cancellazione ho annullato la prenotazione.
Un mese prima del soggiorno mi sono trovato con sorpresa un addebito sulla carta di credito del 50% della tariffa che avrei dovuto pagare.
Ho dovuto fare reclamo al sito e ad oggi quasi più di due mesi dopo pur dandomi ragione non mi hanno ancora ridato la somma.
La cosa preoccupante è che se non si sta attenti e si controlla minuziosamente le spese e l'estratto conto prelevano il vostro denaro e se lo intascano.
Visto soprattutto che leggendo qui non sono stato l'unico a cui è capitato questo i sospetti aumentano...
Mio consiglio è stare molto lontani da questa struttura.
Tre mesi prima del soggiorno ampiamente dentro i termini di cancellazione ho annullato la prenotazione.

Una buena solución.
Las plazas para hospedarse en Faial me parecen pocas para el potencial turístico que tienen. Por eso,supongo, la ocupación en Horta -la capital de la isla- era bastante alta, incluso tres meses antes de mi viaje en Junio 2017. Estoy agradecido de que los dos matrimonios nos quedáramos en Residencia Machado, porque, la verdad, costó mucho encontrar alojamiento.
El Hostal es pulcro y está bien cuidado (con sus plantas naturales en la pequeña recepción, así como en los rellanos de la escalera -no hay ascensor- y también colgadas en el patio interior). Las habitaciones son modestas y muy limpias con camas confortables y ventanas al exterior. No sirven desayunos pero al lado hay una buena cafetería. El empleado que nos atendió fué atento y nos ayudó siempre que lo necesitamos.
Una experiencia postitiva que nos solucionó la visita a esta parte de las Azores.
