Honey moon at Casa Atlantida
First time I visited Flores island was 7yrs ago, on this trip I met the one that was to become my future husband.
Years after, September 2019 we are celebrating our honey moon in the place that made us fall in love, Faja Grande Das Flores.
Casa Atlantida played a major role in this, it’s location right in the center of the vila with its stunning view of the most occidental sunset in Europe gave it an extra of magic and charm.
We strongly recommend it and we’re looking forward to our next visit at Casa Atlantida.

Good enough
The location is excellent. Step outside your door and the Atlantic Ocean is right there beyond the volcanic rocks. Its a great place to watch the sun set on Europe. The unit itself is a step above "rustic". Yes, it has the appliances and electronics you would want, but the walls and floorboards are beat up. We also had an ant problem that we were mostly able to control. We used the spray provided and applied along the bottom of the door. We also learned that leaving a wet towel on the bathroom floor would attract ants. Overall though it was a "good enough" unit for us.

House in spectacular enclave in poor condition
We have been staying in the houses located on the promenade of Faja Grande, two rooms, close to several restaurants and facing natural pools and very close to two others. It is in a spectacular location overlooking the sea and the Poço do Bacalhau waterfall. The person attending is very attentive, friendly and helpful. Available at all times answer by whats app quickly to any doubt. The house is equipped with everything you need, including washing machine. It also had complimentary coffee, oil, sugar, salt... they have installed air conditioning in the rooms. Even though they came for Processing, the house has cockroaches. Every day of those of us who stayed saw some, alive and dead. There are also ants. Flores is a damp place and it is more frequent to see them but I think it was partly because of the conditions in which the house is located since we did not see them in other accommodation. It's an old house that lacks maintenance. The floor was simple painted cement, which gave it a very sloppy look. Walls chipped with humidities, dirty windows...Tourist demand is very high and supply is scarce so they are taken advantage of by charging unorientated prices that does not correspond to the condition of the facilities. I hope they regulate this situation because it is a real shame to pay €300 a night for such a joint.

STAY ANYWHERE ELSE!
The cab driver who dropped us off winced when we told him where we were staying and said “That place is terrible, I can’t believe they get away with it!” We can’t either! As noted on countless other reviews across several platforms, Casa Atlantida offers a wildly overpriced basic room that is hot and stuffy and full of cockroaches and ants. When we contacted the local caretaker we were told that this is “normal” although we have spent 2 weeks traveling around the Azores and have not seen this version of “normal” elsewhere. The building is also next to a public picnic area that has large, loud gatherings late into the evening so it doesn’t seem private or quiet. As noted elsewhere, the curtains are all sheer, so you can see everything inside all of the units. When we arrived we saw our fully naked neighbor, just trying to enjoy his vacation inside what he assumed was a private room, but actually everyone can see right through the curtains from the outside, in the evening. On top of all of this, they have the gall to charge 25 Euros PER PERSON upon arrival as a fee, although no one could explain what the fee is for. Was is for the giant dead cockroach in the middle of our kitchen? For the hot, airless room that you will toss and turn in? Please take our advice and stay anywhere but Casa Atlantida!

Best view
Basic accommodation but with the best view!! We staid at Ap1 with 3 bedrooms; basic but very clean. Within a walking distance (3 minutes) to a beautiful natural pool! Loved it and we'll be back for a longer stay!
