Great laid-back stay with a welcoming atmosphere

Lazy Crab Hostel offered a laid-back stay with a welcoming atmosphere, thanks especially to Rider, the owner, who was friendly and genuinely committed to supporting the local community. His passion for the island and its people stood out and added a meaningful touch to my time there. The dorm room was comfortable, and I appreciated having a small shared space. The hammocks and common area provided a relaxing spot to unwind, meet other travellers, and take in the island vibe. It also had a pool table and a bar, making it a great spot to relax and socialise. Renting motorbikes directly from the hostel was convenient, and both bikes I hired were in good condition—perfect for navigating Ometepe’s rough roads and exploring the island. The hostel’s location in the main area of the island where most backpackers gather meant there were plenty of activities, places to eat, and opportunities to connect with fellow travellers close by. Lazy Crab was a great base with a positive energy, largely due to Rider’s hospitality and community spirit.

Not a good place to stay, especially at Christmas.

Room came complete with:-
- Window that acts like a magnifying glass to warm your room and help you perspire.
- Ceiling full of Geckos who lovingly crap on your balcony, floor, sink and bed.
- Army of highly skilled wall artists but oddly no cleaners.
- Access to social / construction area.
- Magic spring water straight from the tap - no filter required. The note on the wall tells no lies.
- Enough wifi to send a text if you hang over the balcony just right.
Also, does have friendly enough staff and tasty breakfast.
Changed room once and left early even though we had paid.

Incontournable

Fantastic place with great room. Personnal is very nice and ready to help you. Place is full of arts with good breakfast and good coffe for free in the morning. Price is also very good. A must for travelers looking to enjoy their stay in Ometepe.

Do not rent a scooter there!

Don’t hire a scooter from them!! They gave us the worst scooter ever. When we started it was already wobbling and after about 5km we had a completely flat tire. We had to get it fixed right there, with NO help from lazy crab hostel and when we returned the scooter that evening they laughed in our faces and said it wasn’t their responsibility if we broke a tire, so made us pay for the repairs!
Additionally there was no back light on the scooter and the front light only worked half of the time! Horrible experience with them!

Very chill place to relax

Very chill and comfortable Hostel with very friendly staff , a great place to relax after exploring this beautiful island . The rooms and bathrooms are clean and comfortable . The whole place has a very chill vibe to it
