Under new management with a breath of fresh air

Boutique hotel in transition. Very nice for a quiet getaway. Was there with family (all adults) and enjoyed the time.
Room not yet completely renovated (the carpet is a no-go) and even in the already renovated rooms, the old 80s carpet around the base of the bed is bothersome.
Renovated bathrooms are top-notch.
If breakfast is served until 10 a.m., croissants, scrambled eggs, and bacon should not already be "out" at 9:30 a.m.
A la carte dinner was super. Especially the menu has a super price-performance ratio.
Owner couple super nice, friendly, helpful, and perfectly cater to all wishes. Staff also very friendly and professionally knowledgeable. But sometimes small language comprehension problems.

No goodwill despite severe weather warnings on 10.01.2026

The stay ultimately did not happen, but I would like to describe my experience.
On 10.01.2026 I had to cancel my arrival at short notice. On that day, extensive weather and traffic warnings (snowfall, iciness, limited navigability) were in place in the Black Forest and the adjacent regions. Public warning messages explicitly advised against non-essential travel, so that a safe journey was objectively not responsible in my view.
I was aware that my booking was not free to cancel. Nevertheless, I have explicitly asked for a cult solution, for example in the form of a credit for a later stay. This request was rejected; I then settled the bill in full.
Communication was polite and formally correct, but not very customer-oriented in dealing with this extraordinary situation. Too bad, because I would have liked to visit the house at another time.

I won't be a regular

In our view, the hotel does not meet the standards of a boutique hotel. The room is a bit old; a price of 300 € per night without breakfast seems to be significantly overdone.
For an elderberry bowl for a toddler were charged €5.40, which we found disproportionate. Although heating is done, however, noticeably cold air draws through the windows, which made the stay less comfortable.
The host attaches great importance to an exclusive appearance, but seemed less warm and rather artificially friendly to me.

excellent!

We had a great stay - from the room to dinner to the spa area everything was superb. The hotel operators and staff were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We'll be back!

Extremely expensive paired with halving the portions

We ate in the past years again and again in the ox and were also always satisfied. Unfortunately, however, for the past two years, we have been seeing extreme prices of more than 40% on the one hand, while on the other hand, the portions have almost halved. Instead of two roads, for example, there is only one left, the noodles are much less and the salad is served in a mini bowl. For us, the restaurant is no longer an option, we stay away!
