Hotel Anker

The family-run Hotel Anker in the historic center of Saalfeld. Emperor Charles V stayed at the hotel in the 16th century. Each of the guest rooms is furnished in its own personal style. All rooms include a TV and a private bathroom. Saalfeld is ideally located for exploring many of the scenic parts of Thuringia. A number of parking spaces are available in the hotel car park.

Hotel Anker in Saalfeld is excellent

We last stayed at the Anker Hotel in Saalfeld in 1978 when the DDR did not provide good support for visitors. Today the hotel is a wonderful example of how a free economy can revolutionise a hotel. It's wonderful!

Hotel in the centre of Saalfeld

Hotel Anker is located in the centre of Saalfeld. It is an old hotel that has come of age . It needs a thorough renovation . The staff is friendly and breakfast is sufficient. Unfortunately, there is no elevator in the hotel . Parking is available free of charge

On the square

I have a nice room overlooking the square and restaurants were within walking distance. The room was homey and comfortable, and the bed was very low to the floor. I had the best sleep, there!
The internet there is no good, except for in the lobby, but you can purchase an inexpensive package. There is also no elevator, so you can expect to haul your luggage up a flight or two.

Good Basic Hotel

I stayed at the hotel for a week on a business trip. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are spacious. Lighting is a bit dark in the winter, but overall adequate. My room faced the town square so my view was great. Hotel internet was spotty and I ended up buying a Telecom plan for 20EU that worked quite well. The room isn't fancy, it's fairly simple / functional. I found the bed quite comfortable. Bath is modern and nice.
Breakfast is very good. The last day I had to catch an early train - well before the breakfast start. The staff were great at making sure I had coffee available and surprise me by opening the buffet early - just great hospitality!
